Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread
Apparently my regular mail carrier is on vacation because my neighbor walked over last night with a few boxes I've been waiting for.
Picked up a Brian Doran pipe http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...BC8EE320DF.jpg Another Jake Hackert cob. Love these pipes. For 25 bucks they can't be beat. http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...F0486F1222.jpg Grabbed a "seconds" billiard from Moonshine pipes. http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...B447F7E5_1.jpg |
Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread
Surprising I found these locally.
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...43AB50E7D2.jpg Grabbed a few aged tins from Pipestud. Chocolate Flake and Meridian is from '11. and the Ashbury is from '05 http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...ADC26E5280.jpg |

These arrived the other day. 2 tins from Oct 2011 and 1 from Mar 2008. I was lucky to swoop on in to Pipestuds as the email arrived...

Chris (Sancho) was offering-up some aged tobacco tin's here on the forum, and I purchased a couple of '07 McClelland Grand Orientals Drama Reserve...
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...pslfg1obfw.jpg Chris included a couple of body guards, samples of '99 Samuel Gawith 1792 Flake and '09 Davidoff Flake Medallion... http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...psrljwogg1.jpg Thank you Chris...:tu |

I'll let you know once I have received a response back from them. I don't know how long the tin's are sealed prior to a customer receiving one from Peretti' (i.e., are the tin's on the shelf for a period of time, or does Peretti' fill em' up per order?). BTW, I just received two 4oz bricks of the Thanksgiving Day blend, and an 8oz tin of #8 Slice Flake from Peretti' last week:tu |
Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread
I've kept tobacco in Peretti's paint tins for a year or more. No worries unless you plan for long term cellaring.
|
Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread
:hn. With the tobacco apocalypse looming, might need 20 years ability on some blends...

That's good to know Warren. I would think a little "sealing wax" around the plug on top would help longevity too. Still awaiting feedback from Peretti'... |
Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread
1st TAD order in awhile as I've been focusing on cigars. Bought the CB Grape because of the influence of a another forums thread. Has a strong grape jelly smell.
Edited to say it's more of a childrens grape cough medicine smell. http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/...pspdboovvc.jpg |

Hot ziggity! Nice little lot Rich. I'm getting into their tobacco now - esp like the Royal and Tashkent. Haven't broken open the Thanksgiving Day, but it smells pretty good!

For myself, I'm not really worried about it. On the two paint tins I have, I know once I open one of them, I'll work from the tin for a bit, and then transfer over Kerr or Mason jars until conclusion. |
Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread
Was running low on some stuff:
Only had 1000grams of this cellared, and about 250g left of the open one, so I picked up another 500gram box. http://s3.amazonaws.com/tobrev/t/958...7739589075.jpg Opened up the first pint of my last pound and half of Peter Stokkebye Luxury Twist Flake, so ordered another 1/5 pound package. http://s3.amazonaws.com/tobrev/t/pet...wist-flake.jpg In looking around, I realized I only had 1 quart jar with this in it, so I ordered another 8oz of Gawith & Hoggarth Bright CR Flake. (Yes, I do not smoke as much of this as the 2 previous. http://s3.amazonaws.com/tobrev/t/005-001-0023.jpg Getting other images was easier than taking pics. Also got 4 oz of Gawith & Hoggarth's new Cherry Cream flake to test drive. First bowl was favorable, nice Virginias and the cherry/cream was nothing like the cloying stuff normally associated with cherry blends. Peace of the Lord be with you. |
Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread
Interesting pulls on the Peretti tobaccos. Interesting because I do not know that I have ever tried any of their blends in the last 30+ years.
(time lapse to do some investigating...) Ahh, I see now why. MacBaren blends bite me like a rabid dog, not sure why, but there is not a blend of their I tried that did not. And as I looked at Tobacco Reviews, I saw a few there that would be up my alley, but there were a couple that said they have to be treated with kid gloves of they'll bite. I now remember visiting the shop in Boston while I lived in Connecticut. I think I was warned, so I just avoided - or I may have sampled one while there, and decided to avoid further attempts. |
