Friend of mine GAVE me a Sunpak 555 and want to hook it up to my Canon T1i

1st - is there a hotshoe connector?
2nd - is it worth the effort?
3rd - Possibility of Damage to my T1i?

I understand I may need to use it in full manual but did I mention it was free? :D

DO NO plug it into the side of the camera - YES there is the possibility of damage. Small.... but there...

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...t_Shoe_to.html
thats what folks generally use to plug in.... but that would kind of defeat the purpose of free now wouldn't it? :tg

Anyone else have some ideas for him?

Thanks Francis. Free is best but 50 bucks isn't so bad. Looking into the 480 or 520 but they aint free ;)

Nub, I really like the vignetting on the 2nd one. Sometimes it is overused, but it works well here I think... looks natural

I sure am E.J. after shooting 500 pictures today my shoulder loosened up but now I have ice lol. Ive been reading the manual all day. My favorite parts are the flash commander, bracketing, and dials on the front and back of the grip. Still learning too.

P.s. I know I was talking about going canon but with 2 bags full of nikon bodes, lenses, and flashes its not cost effective. Both companies are equivalent (IMO) One is better one year and the next the following. I also put the 10mm 2.8 fisheye on hold. that would heve been good for curves lol.

The worlds original airplanes. Who woulda thunk youd be good at bird photos too?!

Here was my entry that I snapped for the curves assignment this week, but couldn't get home in time to submit (my dumb ass brought the laptop and card reader but not the USB cable for the card reader!)

fisheye is kind of cheating in a curves assignment, hahaha....

Seeing the tree shot in this weeks photo competition got me in the artistic mood, so I hope the original author does not mind that I played around with it a little.

I made it a warmer tone, but I very easily could have stayed with the cool tones and been happy, I was just in the mood for red at the moment. Filtered it out to a brushstroke texture and thats about it. If I was a nature painting fan, that could then get sent to a canvas printer and you got an instant painting, minus the frame :)

100% of any credit goes to the original author, not me. I just ran a couple filters, nothing more.

Not too often you see B-2 vapes!

http://www.montgomeryaviationphotogr...ed_b2vapor.jpg

Your Tucker "falling leaf" is excellent. You also have excellent panning skills! I recommend the Lens Pen to clean sensor dust. http://www.lenspen.com/?cPath=&produ...K-1-a&tpid=146 Vapor usually occurs when you have a terrible sky, alas, as the F-22 pix from Pittsburgh demonstrate. MASSIVE vapor, horrible sky/backdrop.

I can heartily recommend a brush from www.visibledust.com for sensor cleaning as well. Been using em for years. Charge the brush, wipe, and done :tu

How good is the sensor cleaning that is now on the 40 and 50D for Canon? As I recall it just vibrates the sensor to more or less shake stuff off, but has it seemed to be effective?

Not really. To really clean the sensor, you still need to use one of the products mentioned here. I used to use the swabs with solutions that were available, but it seems that the 50D sensor would get destroyed using the same liquid as the 40d sensor cleaner. Better to use a non-liquid. You gotta remember that the sensor is not THAT fragile, it can be cleaned if you're careful. And, it DOES need to be cleaned every now and again unless you want to spend hours cloning away dust spots!

I just bought a "rocket blower" and it helps a lot, but I would still like to clean my sensor. I think I'm going to send the 1D MK II to canon and have it "tuned up". It's due.

Unless canon has improved their sensor cleaning service over the last few years since I cared to check, you may need to clean it when it gets back anyway.

Do you know if the d40 has the snap on clear plastic LCD cover like the other models? I can't seem to find it anywhere, also the "remote" works for the d40 right?
