At 33 Savards career is over, it will probably take a couple years for him to get healthy? Time to move on.

I like the Idea about putting Savard on the shelf for the rest of the year and using his money to pick up a Hired Gun, Although I don't know who would be available.
The thing is you can't just cut him loose, you still have to pay him and with that ridicules contract, you can't shelf him and he won't retire.
I hope for his sake though he does get better. And get his head fixed.

Johan Franzen scored 5 goals last night to beat the Sens 7-5 :) Not much defense played last night. Was almost like watching the allstar game.

Franzen 5 - Ottawa 5. Luckily for the Wings Draper and Kronwall were there to pick up Johan's slack. :r

No kidding.. One worry I have is how the defense/goaltending will hold up. Really the Wings have been having to put up big goal numbers. Last I remember they are around 20th in the league in goals allowed per game and 2nd in goals/game. Not very good balance.

Man you guys hate Claude. I think its the third time this year hes been discussed. :r
I was never an Avs fan, but Roy made Maltby his bit@h for a second. He was an angry goalie though and he could throw hands. Seriously though I dont know what Hasek was doing Roy would have made him look like DiPietro, but wouldnt have stopped right away.

I don't often complain about the officials, but they stole one from the Hawks in Vancouver tonight. Hawks had a goal waved off for goalie interference when absolutely no contact was made. The Canuckleheads got a goal on an offsides play. And some terrible penalty calls which favored the home team. I don't think I have seen officiating this bad at a Hawks game since Denis Morel retired.

Ahbroody 02-05-2011 06:19 PM

Re: NHL '10 - '11 Thread

Tom I am not a fan of the refs, but I watched that whole game on the cbc feed and didnt think you were jobbed that bad.

The eirhoff play he was off sides, but how the hell did that go in untouched from the blue line? Turco should have had that all day, he didnt appear screened. As to the goal waived off the cbc guys showed there was contact with the blocker and the skate of the blackhawk. Incidental, but it did appear to technically be the right call.

As to the penalties, Canucks took 6 including I believe a 5-3 for about 50 seconds. The refs also gave the penalty in the last 3 min to the Canucks giving the Hawks the chance to tie it up. The Hawks took 5 penalties no 5-3. What really struck me about the game was how bad the Hawks PP looked. On one or two PPs I remeber they didnt even get a shot on net but the Canucks did get shots on the PK.

To me the story was the Hawks couldnt convert on any of their PPs including a 5-3. Luongo played well, two of the Hawks goals were flukie. Boyntons goal was off his hip. Bolland goal is confusing as hell to watch. It was an own goal of the dmans hand.
I am no fan of the canucks, but I saw it a little different.
I will say the operator of the goal horn in that arena is straight dbag. What the hell was that crap? The random honk numbers. Reminded me of the horn operator in Ottawa during the world jrs the other year.

Re: NHL '10 - '11 Thread

Other than the horrible officiating, which I think is getting worse and worse, Sean Avery is the single worst thing that the NHL has going against it.

He is a cheap dirty player, not in the good way like Tie Domi was.

He is a coward, I can't tell how many times he makes someone *think* they are going to fight and he tries to skate away like he did nothing wrong.

Watch how he handles himself in this video, cheap shots to start a fight, then he just turtles and pretends he isn't fighting until he thinks he has an advantage and then actually pulls a take-down on the ice. No one does that. Except him. The day he retires will be one of the best days the NHL has seen in years.

Yea, I hate dirty cowards. And he is the worst.

icehog3 02-05-2011 09:29 PM

Re: NHL '10 - '11 Thread

Mike, I may be overreacting but I really think it was a poor call on the Bolland disallowed goal....I might cut the linesman slack on the Erhoff goal as it would be real tough to see in real time, but I am not convinced that the Broweur contact with Miss Lou meets the standards of the rule. I thought two of the penalty calls were jokes too...but you are right, bottom line is they had their chances, Miss Lou played well and it's all in the rearview now.

Avery is a punk, afraid to straight-up square off with anyone anymore...he won't fight unless he can start the fight with a decided advantage. Bush league.

Re: NHL '10 - '11 Thread

I hear you Tom.
I think they did a piss poor job as a whole and I think the 5-3 was their way of trying to even up the Eirhoff mistake. I just found myself yelling at the computer a little when the Hawks were on the PP all night. The PP reminded me of the Sharks PP at times this year, frustrating. Loads of talent but no finish.

Wings dropped another tonight. Rutroh is the age of the D core catching up with them over the long season? Kidding, looks like they are hitting their ruff patch for the season. They just cant score at times. Hoping the pack tightens up will make it a very exciting end to the season

Halak isn't having as good a year as he did last year with the Habs, but "not cut out for the NHL"? Gimmie a break. He is a good goalie having an average year, and his stats are much better than Conklin's.

Halak GAA 2.62 Save Pct .907
Conklin GAA 3.30 Save Pct .876

I'm not arguing stats, because those are in ink, but I think he's going through a real slump and is having some confidence issues. I think Conklin has gained some confidence as of late and its giving the Blues a chance to win. And who knows, maybe it has been the move to St. Louis that has put him in what I see as a rut, but I will say, all of St. Louis is pulling for the guy!

I remember when Shanahan stepped into Roy. Of course Roy skated clear across the rink so he could be the third man into a fight; so Shanahan was just keeping it fair. Those were epic games and fights.

Logan has set the record for a rookie scoring game winning goals on the road with 8 surpassing larmers 1982 record of 7. He has 24 goals on the season. Seems a lock for rookie of the year if he keeps going.

Today on the post game players discussed how during the 6 game losing streak they got lazy and selfish. Sharks move into fourth and are red hot nipping at the Stars heels with a chance to take over the pacific tomorrow.
