The stuff shows up in the $30/ 8oz range from time to time. (Which by the way is what Canadians pay for a 2oz tin of any regular tobacco). Keep your eyes skinned and stay tuned to the forum. If pops up here and there. |

Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread
43 is quite fair considering GLP 8oz tins are 32 at smoking pipes. I'd bite at that price easily.

Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread
Decided to stop by George's since I was doing a couple things in downtown today. Walked in, grabbed a tin of Dunhill Flake and stepped in the humidor to see what he had interesting. Grabbed a couple sticks and was about to walk out the humidor and I just happened to look to the left of the door and lo and behold, 2 bags of Penzance. Grabbed one for myself and the other for a co-worker. Twas a good day.

I've been on the prowl for pipes suitable for flake and cake tobaccos. This turned up on Smokingpipes.com

Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread
What is it that makes a pipe better for certain tobacco types?
|
Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread
The bowl is tapered, which allegedly allows for a folded flake to be stuffed in and burn easily without rubbing it out. So far my baby Dunhill bulldog handles flakes the best, and it isn't tapered.
I've had limited success so far, with the bowl getting nasty hot. Not sure if it is a lower quality briar, thin wall, or hot burning Virginia tobacco. My quest continues..... |

I hope it works out for you. :tu

Couldn't pas this up at the local B&M at lunch yesterday. Only 4 bucks, and perfect for a quick lunchtime smoke.

Nice pickups Mark.
|
Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread
Let me know your thoughts on the Samovar Mark. I'm thinking of grabbing some McC Smyrna #1 and GLP Embarcadero now that the Oriental bug has bitten.
I have an unwrapped box at home that should contain 2 tins of Escudo and a tin of Dan Tobacco's Gordan Pym. 4pm cannot come quick enough. |

Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread
Tobacco moisteners.

Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread
My tobacco comes to me wet and then the humidity here at 90* adds to it! I put some in the fridge overnight to dry it out!

Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread
I've been trying to post my pipe picture for awhile now, finally had the opportunity this morning.
I'd like to thank nutcracker for his generous pipe tobacco sampler he sent with his hockey pool cigars. http://i978.photobucket.com/albums/a...psc2qyn68a.jpg http://i978.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps2bjd1mw8.jpg http://i978.photobucket.com/albums/a...pshz3makfp.jpg http://i978.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps7gmz7n94.jpg http://i978.photobucket.com/albums/a...psjwaq4jaa.jpg I can't take credit for the pipes, my lovely spouse purchased all of them for me. The pipe stand was purchased at an antique store in Comfort, TX during my visit attending my brother's wedding. They had several different styles to choose from, I don't know how old it is, but it was well worth the $40, ditto again to my spouse, she wouldn't leave without it. |
Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread
That's a nice start! Looks like you have a nice variety of good leaves too.
|
Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread
nice haul, I too have been on the receiving end of Neil's shipments, great guy!
|
Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread
To many choices and not enough time. When Neil said he'd send some samples my way, I thought wonderful 3 or 4 different varieties from someone with more experience, I wasn't ready for the nearly dozen samples he sent. I wish I were home more often.

Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread
Received this in the mail yesterday: 8oz of L.J. Peretti Blend #333, new blend from P&C H&H Signature Delta Days, and an 8oz tin of H&H Anniversary Kake. The Blend #333 and Delta Days will be transferred to Mason jars, and the Anni Kake will simply be dated and set aside for future use (I already have two Mason jars of Anni Kake sitting)...
