Re: Games thread!
I started up on DragonAge: Origins again last night. I tried it when it first came out, and it just didn't do anything for me. I am enjoying it quite a bit more so far. Just had it laying around for a year, seemed like it was time to sit down and play it haha.
Sony estimated a $171 Million cost for the PSN breach...only about $2 per account. But between the earthquake and the PSN breach, they are at a net loss of $3.14 Billion for their fiscal year. Yowza. Linky Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Games thread!
I'm actually cracking out on Minecraft lately.
Bought Brink on Steam but need to get my new gaming rig (happy birthday to me) in order to even look at it. Other than that I'm fiending for Mass Effect 3, Duke Nukem and... oh who knows what else. |

Not a new one but you know what I really enjoy is Eufloria. If you're on steam pull down the demo. It's solid, simple and clever. Minecraft is really crackilicious. Problem is on my laptop (win7/64) it locks up about every 10 minutes or so. Oddly I've gotten used to it and still play. The guys in the irc channel exhausted their suggestions at "upgrade video drivers". |

And if you are looking to go REAL oldschool, look up DOSbox. It is an emulator to be able to play classics from WIN95. You'll have to download backups of the images online (for games you legally own, of course) and/or rip your own discs to use it. Posted via Mobile Device |

I've never quite committed enough attention to it to get DOSbox up and running. But I've been doing this since Wizardry 1 on the Apple ][ and I'd like to hit some of the classics again. |

Just beat Mafia II, wow it was stupid. Half a game, there was no use for half the features in the game.....pathetic. :td

Brink
If you're an FPS team guy, Brink is really quite intense. Unfortunately it's not quite my style. Very solid game though. I can highly recommend it if your genre matches.

Hmmm I might look into Brink soon. Playing The Witcher 2 right now, so far iffy....not sure how I feel. The combat sucks that's for sure but the story seems like it's going somewhere...

I also picked up the Witcher 2. Agree with the Bill, the combat sucks but the story is kind of interesting. Still on the fence about it, don't think i'll finish it but it is kinda fun in small doses. |
Re: Games thread!
Playing L.A. Noire.
And enjoying it very much.. Story is very good, gameplay has both some shooting and a bunch of puzzles, plus you get to beat the crap out of suspects. Its not quite the action of a GTA or a Red Dead Redemption, but it adds a whole new element to the game engine. |

I haven't encountered any playtime bugs at all after about 3-4 hours of play. The only thing I suspect might be a bug is that the weapon selections don't have descriptions. There's a list of stats for each, which is fine for selecting one, but there's no text. Tough to tell if there's supposed to be, having never seen it. I may re-buy Crysis as I can't find the dvd. But then I might just pick up C2 and go with that. The new gaming rig I got on Friday is a hot piece of kit. I keep going back to older stuff, maxing out the graphics and watching what I'd been missing. |

I really think that if they released it a year later with some better testers and less annoying gameplay...it could have been a solid 8.5-9/10. For me now it's a 7.5-8 |

Here's the breakdown:
Installed steam and had it go get all my stuff while I went to work ;) |
Re: Games thread!
The Witcher 2
Combat 6/10 - This is where the game really lacked, mouse click = fighting. The entire combat is comprised of one mouse click, the keys X and Q. That is it. Story 9/10 - Great interesting story, the end fell a little flat IMO though. Gameplay 7.5/10 - At times confusing and doesn't really explain much. Overall rating, ...eh it's worth playing once if you have nothing else to play. But that's about it. If they would have improved the combat, and maybe added a few hours to the gameplay..... I could go on and on but I'm sure this makes the point. |
Re: Games thread!
Ok Solo FPS, reasonable single-player and online action.
Whatcha like? I need to just go blow s*** up. Brink would work if it weren't so damn teamy. |

Let me elaborate on the way I play MW2. I load into a map and say one of a few phrases "LOL NOOB TUBE" "LOL CAMPING WITH A THERMAL SCOPE" "LOL UMP" etc. I play that game when I'm in a be-a-jerk-online kind of mood. CS:S is pretty fun. And when you load into a gungame, it is really fast paced with zero team work involved. Gungame is also popular in condition zero. There aren't any really modern day shooters (Other than Black Ops, but you already know about that one I'm sure) that are lone-wolf. CS:S, unreal tourney, etc. were all a blast and had no team work required. You always have the option to work as a team - and it is more needed on objective based maps/modes. However, CS:S and UT don't fulfill your single player bit. I'd recommend BF:BC2 or MoH for single player. I play through old school Medal of Honor: Allied Assault every few years. Still a fantastic game. Posted via Mobile Device |

Steam is having a great deal this weekend: Free multiplayer on CoD:Black Ops through Sunday. I've gotten a couple hours in already. It's pretty intense. Might be enough to make me go for it. |
Re: Games thread!
Anyone interested in Duke Nukem Forever?
I played the demo, 3 times, yesterday. All I can say is it's definitely up to date and true to form. Duke always has a cigar, beers, sluts, and an ego equivalent to the size of the U.S of A. :usa :salute: This ones going to kick ass....but I think people are expecting too much. It's not supposed to be a "game of the year" or anything of the sort, just old fashioned FPS violence with classic 80's style one liners. Duke is still the chauvinistic pig we all know and love from way back......It's going to be a heck of a fun game. |
Re: Games thread!
Love it. Where'd you pick up a demo?

Did you see the secret area to Dukes Penthouse? Funny posters there of Duke bad@$$ness and more cheesy one liners :tu |

If you're looking for GTA IV style gameplay, you'll be disapointed. They definitley targeted the 40's era crime-drama vibe with this one. |

I really didnt like LA Noire the gameplay was a little to slow for my taste.

Re: Games thread!
Finally ordered God of War 2 and 3. THey have arrived - starting on GoW2 right now.
Also - I went to an old friend's house last night to roll my D&D character to join in on the campaign they just started. Should be fun :banger |
Re: Games thread!
Playing Duke Nukem Forever.....this game is kind of annoying...not sure why. Even on easy you can get 2-3 shot. Doesn't make much sense.
They also introduced mini puzzles like in half life. Kinda stupid and non-Duke like...so far I'm giving it a 7/10. We'll see if it gets any better. |
Re: Games thread!
Eh game comes out in a few hours, I just finished it not 2 hours ago. It's not bad, not worth the like $60 pricetag though.....I would have liked to see a longer game, more interactive and less CoD like.
|
Re: Games thread!
Agreed...the problem is this would've been a great follow-up 10 years ago, but 12 years later it really brought the cheese and weak-sauce.
|
Re: Games thread!
Well they made it too much like CS. For 1
2. 2 weapons...wtf, and the freeze gun does nothing.... 3. Not enough Duke one liners 4. Needs more smoking, beer drinking and sluts 5. More items should have been interactive 6. EASILY better graphics 7. MUCH more single player. 8. Less puzzles 9. Shrunken Duke was overused and annoying. I could keep going on and on.....overall I'd give it a 7/10. Assuming they deliver on the next one that is. Basically I wanted straight forth badassery with nonstop beating the crap out of everything....AKA "Duke" |
Re: Games thread!
Yep. Played about 45 minutes of Duke this morning after it unlocked. Some cute stuff there, which I appreciate. I'm sick to death of games with no sense of humor (take that as an implied request for recommendations ;) ).
But it does seem a little... I dunno... too much and not enough. We'll see. Decided to re-up on EvE after a while. Boy has THAT changed! |
