Eh, BT is alright, overpriced IMO. You can get better for the price.

What do you prefer over it at that price point? I tried it the other night and thought it was good, but not great. At the price point, I like EWSB better, and Eagle Rare is very good too, but a touch more $.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

Weller Antique 107 comes to mind. If BT is about $23, the WA107 should be about $20. If you run across Weller 12 yr, get it. It's only $22 around here when it comes out.

I'd rather have Elijah Craig 12 at a slightly lower price. I think it has more flavor and body. I agree BT is good, but not great. EC is better to my palate.

I actually did pick up a bottle of Weller 107 a month or more ago. I agree it is pretty good for the price, I forgot that one! I'll keep my eye open for the 12 yr.

I'm reserving my judgement on BT until I have it a few more times. Once isn't enough, but I wasn't overly impressed the first time.

Haven't tried EC yet...I'll have to put it on my short list. Thanks! :tu

I also agree with the EC12.

Last bottle of Buffalo Trace I got was $19.95. What is better at that price point?

I also got a bottle of Eagle Rare, but that was $20.95, another very nice one.

Have not found the Elijah Craig locally.

A close price point is the Evan Williams Single Barrel. Amazing stuff, and only 23.95 around GA, similarly elsewhere I'm sure.

Has anyone tried the Costco Kirkland Bourbon yet?
Just read about it today. 7 years old, 103 proof,
about $20/liter. Rumor has it it's Jim Beam made.

Just started on some Elijah Craig. Bought some for bbq sauce the other week and cracked it for some drinks tonight. Very nice, especially for $20 :tu

Just picked up a bottle of extremely limited first run Angel's Envy which is made by famed distiller Lincoln Henderson. Going to crack it open and have a little later this week, will let you know how it is. Info can be found here:

Bought it. Had a sip or 2 neat. Good flavors, a little hot, I need to try it with a splash to see how it opens up, and then maybe with a cube before passing judgment overall. A little raisin-y aroma, and oak and vanilla to me, with a sniff as I look at the bottle for you.
So far, I think it will be well worth the 20 bucks.

It is distilled and bottled by "The Clear Spring Distilling Co. Clermont frankfort KY."

Just did a quick search...that's the Jim Beam Distillery, apparently.

bought the kirkland borboun, and for $20.00 it is very nice. Over a cube is the best i think, but even neet it is decent. It is much better than many other equivelant low end burbouns out there. I would put it on a playing field with buffalo trace or makers.

WOW! A peice of American distilling history no doubt. Wish I could get some for a reasonable price although I think those days are gone...

I've been curious about picking up some of this.
But since my Costco's selling Makers Mark ("Mother's Milk")
for $29/1.75 Liter, I haven't seen a reason yet.

What say you two? It comes in a nice looking package but the juice stands up to the image on my taste buds.

Have you had Weller Special Reserve or 4 Roses Small Batch? Both are pretty darn good especially at their price; WSR $13-16 & 4RSB $22ish. I've been drinking more of the Weller SR because it's good and the price is just hard to pass up for what you get.

Ken

I haven't opened the bottle yet. I've got four different bottles of bourbon open already. I need to finish at least two of them off before I open any new bottles.

I've had Weller's (had a glass a week ago), as well as 4 roses. Don't currently have any in my collection. Nothing against either of these, I just don't currently have the room!!

I was wondering about the Weller Special Reserve, it seemed too cheap. $17 at my local means probably 14-15 in the city. I didn't buy it. I might have to try it though. I love the William Larue Weller 67.4% :dr 134.8 proof :dr

Just picked up a bottle of Knob Creek Single Barrel will have to try it this weekend. :dr

If this is the 107 proof bottling, I loved it a while back. Unbelievable value for the coin. Wish we could still get it up here...

The Weller 107 is a fantastic bourbon. There are many amazing value bourbons out there, don't let price fool you.

Barcode, the Knob Creek Single Barrel is a nice upgrade from the standard Knob for sure.

Ha, doesn't look like a bad problemat all. The only issue I had with my Willett was that it was a 1.75l and it just didn't last as long as I'd hoped. Hope you enjoy yours.

Yep, you can't always judge a bourbon by the sticker. The WSR is good stuff. I even prefer it over the Antique 107. I enjoy the taste of the 4 Roses SB compared to the Single Barrell, which sames me money. There's a lot of value to being a bourbon drinker.

What is the hype with the White Dog Mash? Grabbed a bottle of it and it tasted like I thought it would. Unbarreled bourbon whiskey. I think more of a novelty than a tasty product. I love Buffalo Trace, but now I understand why this was originally only sold in the gift shop.

I think it is just a novelty, but to me it is a tasty novelty. Its interesting to be able to taste the product so you know how much barrel aging really affects the whiskey.

Finally picked up some Bulleit bourbon. Pretty nice. I was hoping for a little more to it. Fairly mellow, but the flavors that are there are pretty nice. Maybe I've just been drinking too much Weller 12yr recently.

I guess I've just missed something with the Bullitt! Had a bottle gifted me 4-5 years ago, and I found it to be almost too harsh to drink. I gave it away, with only 2 drinks poured out of it. Haven't had the desire to re-try. Maybe I'd better look for a small bottle, and see if I am missing something, or if Bullitt just doesn't agree with my tastebuds!!!

I heard it was fairly spicy, but I didn't really get that. The more intense flavor is the more I like it, with anything.

I agree I like the small batch four roses better than the single barrel. Although given the choice I'd gladly close my eyes and drink either.

I'll pick up a bottle of WSR and see what I think. Maybe tomorrow.

I generally avoid cheap booze because I hate the hangovers. Although frankly even Jim Beam goes down plenty fine with me and that's like $35 for 1.75 liters. However, cheap tequila....:pu

Good tequila :tu

Yea WSR > Jim Beam for sure. They are usually the same price. I've been wanting to try the small batch FR forever. Single Barrel is excellent IMO.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

Don't hesitate, the small batch is very good especially for the price. ~$28 or so last I remember. I've definitely killed a few bottles, and I'll say they didn't last more than 2 ...MAYBE 3 days. Very tasty.

I just don't have the money to buy bottles anymore. I really had to convince myself to buy that Bulleit, haha. I drink way more beer (homebrew :) ), just have small pours of bourbon here and there. It's definitely on the list though. It's around $23 here.

Is anybody going to The Bourbon Sampler in Bardstown Kentucky? The sampler is one of The Boubon Festival events. All of the major distillers are present and handing out samples of their bourbon in glasses with their logo. You may keep the glasses. In addition, local restaurants and caterers have tables with various food items. It is a great opportunity to taste various bourbons and meet master distillers. The cost is $40 and well worth it.

I tried some of this last night. Definitly was missing something. It didn't have the sweet, spicy that I've had in some ryes. I think I'll stick to the regular Bulleit.
