Another cup of Jose's vanilla nut.. I don't have much time to roast my own, or I'd think about it. I have to say, for the price, the Jose's brands of coffee have never let me down!

I had the last of a batch of SM's Monkey Blend this morning. Makes a pretty decent regular cup. Roasted off half a lb of Burundi that'll get sampled tomorrow.

Nothing fancy. I've been on a Cafe Bustelo kick for the last couple of months. Stuff taste great through a 1 cup Melita or packed in to an Espresso maker. And, its only $3.68 or $3.78 at one of the big box stores...

Ethiopia Dry Processed Grade 1 Aricha :cf2 roasted 12 hours before to city+, drip, Silk. Pretty good, but I think it will be better in the Coffee Kinetics roaster, so I did a 4 pot batch tonight.

Re: COFFEE: What are you drinking?

The Aricha is better, but I think I got it too light. Ah, the joys of home roasting.

Ethiopian coffees for me always need about 36 hours of rest before they start tasting good.

I was blown away by an Ethiopian coffee, a couple weeks back, that was about 4 hours out of the roaster :jd Started doing 12 hour rests.
I hope this comes around, actually, it's starting to already. I'm just not much of a city-city+ guy. I like it FC-FC+.

BSB 12-07-2012 08:58 AM

Re: COFFEE: What are you drinking?

The Aricha, with 36 hours, drip, Silk. Ultra smooth, mild, some sweetness, good cup, but....I did roast this way too light. Thinking maybe I'll roast up a strong flavored Sumatra and blend. Then I would have 6 days worth though :sad

BSB 12-08-2012 08:09 AM

Re: COFFEE: What are you drinking?

A blend of the Aricha and Sumatra Toba Batak peaberry :cf1 roasted 22 hours ago to FC+, drip, Silk. A nice Mokha Java type blend, smooth, some sweetness, earthy funkiness.

An awesome Sumatra Toba Batak peaberry :cf1 roasted 72 hours ago to FC+, drip, Silk. Smooth, sweet, funky, earthy.

Costa Rica Tarrazu Finca La Ortiga at City+.
Very good! Notes of Buttered Sourdough Toast w/ Honey and a slight citrus twang.

BSB 12-11-2012 07:18 AM

Re: COFFEE: What are you drinking?

A nice Mocha Java blend 70% Ethiopia 30% Sumatra. Smooth and sweet, nice berry flavor, and just a hint of earthy funkiness :cf1

I mainly prefer SO, but the Ethiopian came out a bit light, so I thought I'd try some blending. It worked out pretty good. I am looking forward to roasting and trying a new SO, when these coffees are gone though.

Ethiopinan Yirgacheffe.
Last few months have really gotten into coffee. Amazed how much variety is out there.

Ain't that the truth. I LOVE it! And with places like Sweet Maria's, we can get coffee that literally no one else has tried.

Tanzania Peaberry

Picked up some JBM...but it's just not like it used to be.
It's much less 'special'...meaning it is a little washed out. sad.

Re: COFFEE: What are you drinking?

Had some Tanzanian Peaberry espresso this weekend, had a tangy fruitiness that had a delightful linger. Not my preferred flavor profile but pretty enjoyable.

Ethiopia Sidama Deri Kochoha at FC/FC+. Very Sweet and tasty. Not fruity like the Yirga Cheffe's (I do like that) but more coco and baking spice.
Very nice.

That one sounds really nice. I will grab a couple lbs, next order.
Mocha Java again for me :cf2 40% Eth, 60% Sumatra, good cup.

Whatever jet fuel they're serving at the plant here in Argentina. Very similar to Brazilian style coffee. Very thick, almost syrupy.

Re: COFFEE: What are you drinking?

Straight Sumatra Toba Batak Peaberry :cf1 roasted what? gotta be 5 1/2 days ago, at least, drip, Silk. It is a fine cup, earthy, funky, smooth, sweet. Classic!

I like the Sumatrans, but this years crop does not seem quite as good as the varities I got last year. :sh

Re: COFFEE: What are you drinking?

This morning is a blend of 80% Costa Rica Tarrazu Finca La Ortiga at C+ and 20% Brazil Fazenda do Sertao Catuai at FC+.
Very tasty cup. Juicy citrus and Sourdough from the Costa Rica and some Milk Chocolate from the Brazil.

Ya, thats part of it. They seemed a little more sweet in the past, as well as a little more like Baking Spices and less earthy.
The 2-3 varieties this season were very earthy but not as "good-earthy" as last season. More "dirt taste" I guess.
Still good, but did not wow me.

Anyone else like browsing the GCBC? Have a 15# shipment enroute for 2 current offerings there and 10# of unclebeanz Negrita.

My last roast was some Bob O Link that I roasted til they were done with 2nd crack. They're quite dark and oily.

Most from SM have been very good, except the Onan Ganjang may have been a bit "dirty"

I generally roast FC+ anyway and wanted to see how it would be going into French Roast territory. Looking a bit more into it, I may have hit Italian roast, so I will just toss it.

FC+ is pretty much as dark as I go, usually just FC.
