Looks like the perfect spot to take a foul ball right in the teeth, Carlos. :r

Hope you had a great time. :tu

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

David Wright named fourth captain in Mets history. The organization officially bestowed that honor upon him Thursday afternoon, naming Wright the fourth captain in franchise history and the third active captain in the Majors.

And Jon Niese was named the opening day starter. After the spring everyone else on the staff had, it had to be him. He is the only one who has pitched "decent"...he had a 0.71 ERA this spring. Looks like Santana is going to start the season on the DL. Here we go.

Dave128 03-21-2013 07:28 PM

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

I think it's pretty great Wright is the captain. He's a great motivator for this team. Sucks about Santana. I figured he'd be healthy by now.

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

A day after getting skull drug by the Cards, 11-4. Niese looked good in 4.1 of shutout baseball today as the Mets beat the Astros, 6-2. Ok, it was the Astros. :r :r

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

I watched most of the game. The team looked good.

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

I hear ya Dave...but the outfield is a AA outfield at best. Byrd is hitting well, but his glove will not be a factor. Duda has hit for power this spring, but take away his 5 HRs and 12 RBIs and he's done nothing else...his glove is also suspect. That leaves one OF spot free..and God knows who's gonna get it. Neuenweiss is hitting like .069 this spring. And to boot, Tejada is hitting .080. And don't get me started on the pitching staff.

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

Enjoy the love of the game! We know it's going to be a struggle this season. No sense in over-analyzing the inevitable. All wins this season will be a great feeling.

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

I'm with ya Dave...for the love of the game is gonna be it this year. But sometimes it's so damn frustrating. :bh :bh

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

News has it that he's out for the season...again. Another high priced veteran free agent BUST for the Mets. Unless you count his no-hitter. :D

Dave128 03-29-2013 07:53 PM

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

The no-no does count in my book.

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

Projected Opening Day Lineup...

1. CF: Jordany Valdespin
2. 2B: Daniel Murphy
3. 3B: David Wright
4. 1B: Ike Davis
5. RF: Marlon Byrd
6. LF: Lucas Duda
7. C: John Buck
8. SS: Ruben Tejada
9. SP: Jon Niese

My guess is 71 wins this year. :D

Dave128 03-30-2013 09:45 AM

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

I thought it would be Valdespin in right and Newenheis in center?

I believe Neuenweis is getting sent down...he's hitting like .089 this spring. I believe they will keep either Baxter or Coghill up for now. Seeing how they just purchased Byrds contract.

Also, saw this little tidbit this morning

Bay, who agreed to a $1 million, one-year contract in December, batted .321 with two homers and six RBIs in 18 exhibition games.

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

Thanks for throwing fire on the fuel Dom. :D

Oh and for Jason Bay... :fu2 (5th outfielder??...what a friggin joke...can you say career over)

kelmac07 04-01-2013 05:57 AM

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

Mets are still in 1st place...at least for a few more hours!!! :D

kelmac07 04-01-2013 07:37 AM

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

Mets are carrying SIX outfielders on the opening day roster. WTF???

Mike Baxter (minor leaguer)
Marlon Byrd (over the hill veteran)
Collin Cowgill (up n coming???)
Lucas Duda (verdict still out)
Kirk Nieuwenhuis (has not liven up to the hype)
Jordany Valdespin (could be the best of the lot...and he's truly an infielder)

kelmac07 04-01-2013 03:20 PM

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

Mets win the season opener against the Padres 11-2. Niese went 6.2 strong innings and the offense went crazy. Cowgill hits a Grand Slam in the 7th. Cowgill, Byrd, Murphy, Tejada, Buck and even Neise all had two hits...13 total for the team. Savoring this!! :tu :tu

Dave128 04-02-2013 08:11 AM

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

What an awesome game! Great for the morale. If only we could play the Padres every game!

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

HEY! Give 'em credit...They're undefeated, and tied for FIRST PLACE! Let's Go METS!

kelmac07 04-04-2013 05:50 AM

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

Mets win another...beating the Padres 8-4. Harvey looked great, going 7 innings, allowing one hit and striking out 10...and Duda hit another BOMB!! :tu :tu Hawkins in the 9th giving up 3 runs was what I expected from another over the hill veteran.

jonumberone 04-04-2013 06:25 AM

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

With the Yanks 0-2, and the Mets 2-0, for the first time in my life, I have nothing to say! :D

kelmac07 04-04-2013 06:26 AM

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

And the Mets scoring 19 runs in two games...offense is rolling. Now we get to the back of the rotation...where things will get UGLY.

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

Mets lose 2-1. Although they won the first two games, true to Mets history, they can't hold on to win the series.

kelmac07 04-04-2013 05:45 PM

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

They won the series...just couldn't sweep it. Gee pitched a good ballgame...the offense just decided to not show up. Kind of knew we weren't going to go 162-0. :r :r

Mets lose.........Yanks win......I'm starting to get my mojo back! :D

Dave128 04-05-2013 10:15 AM

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

Even if the Mets lose all the rest of their games, at least they didn't have to suffer the embarrassment of losing their season opener.

novasurf 04-06-2013 07:01 AM

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

The Mets will more games than the Yankees this season. Book it.

Mets lose to the Marlins 7-5 last night. .500...won't be able to say that much longer. :D

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

Mets beat the Marlins today 7-3. Niese pitches six strong innings.

kelmac07 04-07-2013 02:54 PM

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

Mets come back to score 2 in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Marlins 4-3. :wo :wo

Mets beat the Phillies 7-2 last night to improve to 5-2. Harvey looked outstanding again last night. :D

Dave128 04-09-2013 08:14 AM

Re: New York Mets 2013 Banter

Harvey did another fine job. Let's just hope this winning thing continues for a while.

GTsetGO 04-09-2013 11:12 AM

I think I could look outstanding against the Phillies

Gee hasn 't looked the same since his injury. At the beginning of last year when he was dealing. I believe he may still be hurt.

Yeah, maybe, but the team still has to show up through September . . . even if the fans don't. :hf
