Thanks for the ESPN link Tom, I always appreciate the perspective of Pierre LeBrun. He is a great asset to hockey.

On the suspension, that's the way that I thought it would go down. Meeting with league officials a minor suspension and he's on his way. Dallas may or may not keep him around, it's not like he could help them or hurt their season at this point, there is now way they will contend for a division or cup this year so do what best suits the team.

Sean's next team may be a minor market affiliate of the Stars. I don't see how another NHL team could justify the risk of signing a player that conducts himself this way on and off the ice.

Gotta agree with you Gregg...the Stars can either put him on waivers and send him to the minors, or buy him out in June...but then they would still suffer the salary cap hit.

A new LeBrun blog just got posted:

He offered to go, it was his suggestion.

I'm glad to see this kind of thing finally happening in professional sports. My son watches the NFL, NHL and MLB all the time, and the last thing he needs to see is guys like that. How do you teach a kid good sportsmanship when this is what they see? I'm a diehard Ranger fan, and as much as I hate the Devils, the crap he pulled last year in the crease in front of Brodeur made me sick.

I think as a professional athlete, you should watch what you say, you shouldn't bring guns to night clubs, etc.

the stuff with brodeur didn't bother me much...however the replay + finger was a bit much.

I think you my friend are on to something here. Avery has a history on and off the ice. So maybe they are trying to send him a message so he doesn't end up like what's his name from Calgary in the 90's. I can still see his stupid little face. He alone made me hate the Flames. Talk about a head case and he pretty much got himself tossed outta the league. Sorry for rambling but I am really trying to remember that Arse's name...

Back to Avery though it show's a lot that his own team don't want him. Please lord let the Isles pass on any opportunity to pick this head case up. Thank you.

I hear the Bakersfield Condors are looking for an agitator left winger to fill out the their energy line.:tu

Seriously though, it's probably a good thing that the NHL took the high road on this one. Seems theres a lot of high paid athletes doing some really dumb stuff lately.

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP)—Forward Sean Avery is expected to play his first game with the Hartford Wolf Pack on Saturday.

The Dallas Stars assigned Avery to the American Hockey League team on Tuesday. A Wolf Pack spokesman said on Friday that the team plans to use him when the New York Rangers’ affiliate hosts Manitoba on Saturday night.

Avery hasn’t played since the NHL suspended him in December for making a crude remark about other hockey players dating his former girlfriends. He completed treatment in a league counseling program last weekend and cleared waivers Monday.

The Stars are the only NHL team without a primary affiliate and could have sent him to any willing team. They have said Avery won’t return to the Stars.

Avery was involved in two minor scrapes in Hartford's 4-1 loss to the Manitoba Moose in front of 5,899.

"I felt good," Avery said. "I was a little nervous. It's been a long time since I've played."

Avery was in the middle of two scraps, one early in the first period, and the next with 2:26 to play in the second. He was not assessed a penalty in either of the small shoving matches.

"A couple of guys said something. Nothing I could probably repeat," Avery said. "That's the type of things that help me play better."

Avery admitted to firing a few barbs, but claimed he held back.

"I had a few comments, but nothing that was too drastic," Avery said. "Or something the old Sean would say."

During the brief, but cordial postgame press conference, Avery skated by a few questions about his past comments, but did make one final quip before leaving.

When asked "what hurt the most" about his ordeal, Avery said, "When a girlfriend dumps me?"

He smiled and added: "No, I feel good."

Still a douchebag. :2

This is not the reason I dislike him. It just showed he was classless off the ice as well as on the ice. He is a cheap, dirty player. I like muckers and scrappers as they have their role but this guy is as I said before a head case and I'll add a "ticking time bomb" for whatever team he joins. It shows how disliked he was by his own teammates when they vocalized their dislike for him after the comment. There was more behind the scenes for a professional and classy athlete like Turco to come out and say something like he did.

As a hockey player (albiet not professional) myself, I lost all respect for him as a player wth the nonsense he pulled with Martin Brodeur last year.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ec_2oKWe2Gw

The comments just made me lose respect for his as a human being.

I was really hopin' this guys was done... he irritates me to no end.

Of course, Michael Vick has several interested parties in the NFL.
Seems when it comes to sports, you can't be scummy enough to let go of if you have some talent.

Then again... wonder why Barry Bonds can't find a team?

Others have committed this same crime and not done half the time that Vick got. Everyone makes mistakes and should be given a second chance. There are people that have killed humans and done less time that Vick did. Question is...which NFL team will take the gamble by signing Vick? Fan base will definetly take hit for signing him.
