I wonder where Seattle will play Montero?
I don't think they will catch him.
Does he go to the outfield or first base?
I heard during the season they were unhappy with Justin Smoak and wished they traded Lee to the Yanks instead.
I wonder if they will keep Smoak and use Montero to push him?
Either way they still have a long road to catch Texas and now the Angels

I'm not so sure I like this trade, and likely won't be for years. Pitching is fragile, while I can see Montero being a 40/100 guy for the next 15 years. And remember, Posada was once denigrated for his lack of ability behind the dish, yet did better than OK IMHO. True, he was never Pudge, but he was never the Pizza man either.

It's much easier to find a bat than a strong arm. Pineda has a lot of upside to him, personally I think it's a great trade. MArtin, Cervelli, Romine and Garcia are all far better catchers than Montero, the Yanks need the DH spot for some of their aging players, he couldn't play outfield because of his lack of speed, there really was just no good place to play him.

Re: New York Yankees 2012

Now that Spring Training is here and the last of the Yankees have been signed to contract here is the opening day roster minus and injuries that may happen during the spring.

Catcher
Russell Martin
Francisco Cervelli

Infield
Mark Teixeira
Robinson Cano
Derek Jeter
Eduardo Nunez
Alex Rodriguez
Eric Chavez

Outfielders
Nick Swisher
Curtis Granderson
Brett Gardner
Andruw Jones
Raul Ibanez

Starters
CC Sabathia
Ivan Nova
Hiroki Kuroda
Michael Pineda
Phil Hughes
Freddy Garcia

Relievers
Mariano Rivera
David Robertson
Rafael Soriano
Cory Wade
Boone Logan

The only opening on the 25 man roster is in the bullpen which they have a few different pitchers that will be fighting for that spot. The 5th spot in the rotation will be between Hughes and Garcia with the loser going to the bullpen. The primary DH's will be a platoon between Jones & Ibanez.

It's going to be a good year. The Yanks have the complete roster in the division :tu

Bobby V has jumped right into the Yankees/Red Sox war by bad mouthing the Yankees everytime a microphone is in front of his face.

Yankees first Spring Training game will be Friday against the University of South Florida on Friday. Sunday they will be on the YES Network against the Phillies at 1pm.

Bobby V hasn't even led a team to a division title, let alone win a World Series.

He should keep his piehole clamped shut.

That's Bobby V though. He has always been that way. The Red Sox have been a circus the last couple season's and they hired the perfect Ring Master.

Who cares. Boston is third place team at best.

I agree. The Ray's are closer to the Yankees then the Sox are.

With the new rules coming down the pipe, 3rd place can get them a wildcard spot.

The first injury of the spring has hit the Yankees. David Robertson has a mild ankle sprain. The injuy happened while at his house. He is getting an MRI done and after that they will have more of an idea about how long he will be out for.

Thread slowed down. So much happening. Joba hurt again, Ibanez blasts his first spring HR (and what second hit? lol), Pineida finds his velocity after all that talk of him slowing down, Andy comes out of reitrement, A-Rod looks sharp, Kuroda is pitching well, things are looking good again.

And Ryan, you are slacking!

For me the most positive thing to come out of spring has been Phil Hughes
I think he's the key to a successful season.
It's time for him to become the pitcher we all hoped he would be.
I expect Nova to take a step back, so Phil needs to stay off the DL, in the rotation, and stay consistent all season long!

Re: New York Yankees 2012

Something's going on with Phil behind the scenes I think. He was Phil the Franchise, the guy they wouldn't trade for Johan Santana and then wasn't he injured during a no-hitter and now he's fighting for a rotation spot with Freddy Garcia? I would really like to see him succeed.

I wonder if there is still left over animosity to him from when he and Ian Kennedy and Joba were all acting like punks when they first came up.

Keys for me are Texiera figuring out how to overcome the shift and Swisher staying healthy. I can't wait for the season to start!

I think if they were confident in the back end of the rotation Andy wouldn't be back. I think Phil is better suited to the bullpen myself.

Nova has not been very consistent this spring either. I can see him being sent back to Triple-A to figure things out.

Re: New York Yankees 2012

Looks like the opening day roster today in Miami:

Derek Jeter SS
Curtis Granderson CF
Robinson Cano 2B
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Mark Teixeira 1B
Nick Swisher RF
Raul Ibanez DH
Russell Martin C
Brett Gardner LF

LHP CC Sabathia

Hopefully Ibanez will be on a short leash. I feel like there is more upside to Andrew Jones.

Re: New York Yankees 2012

Girardi owned by Madden again. What a joke. The team is going to have to work really hard to constantly dig themselves out of the messes he puts them in.

Game one - Jeter leads off with a base hit (of course). Granderson comes up against a shift. If the call is to lay down a bunt to the empty left side everything changes but no - he bounces right into a shift-aided DP.

Let's DH regulars, have your horse IBB a guy in the first inning of the first game and screw Gardner and leave in the wrong reliever because you don't want to burn people out - on day two. It's Day Two.

Fire him.

Good to get the first win of the season out of the way

Nova pitched a good game...gave up a lot of hits but mostly ground ball outs

Re: New York Yankees 2012

Garcia's night was one of the saddest pitching performances that I've ever seen.

5 WP's....zero command

If they were playing a better ball club, he would've gotten shelled.

That said...nice to get another win

Always good to see that bats in action, Swisher can't maintain what he's doing, even in a walk year. Grandy is pure class, an awesome Yankee.

I remember the night A-Rod did it and in interviews the next day he said he still had to take out the trash when he got home. That was before Kate, Madonna and Cameron. =)
