Call ahead. I am sure they are being inundated with phone calls. When I called the shop that's local to me he said they had a pretty long list going already. To think this is the shop that I was able to snag boxes the last two years no problem and the boxes they put on the shelf sat for at least a month but now that they were one of the 13 it seems they were getting a lot of calls. Just glad I put myself on the list months ago hoping to get a non dress box.

I can't find them now, but some photos I saw of the Wolfman, the foot looks very...hairy (pun intended).

I can't believe it took until about noon on Friday for the list to be posted all over the internet. I have a feeling most shops that got them had their waiting list before the 'Exclusive' even knew they were the unlucky 13.

This time it's a 52 x 7.5, they look good...but I'd rather have a PSP2 any day :tu

Hit or miss. IMHO more miss than hit.

There's 4 of them now (with this years)

Face - Tom says it's crap, I didn't smoke one
Drac - Chucked it half way, not much going on
Frank - Very good.
Wolfman - ????

Nope, there were a handful of stories of BOTLs calling a shop right after the list was posted on Friday and that is when the B&M actually found out. I bought mine from Good Karma and the owner just got back into town on Monday and he said he had no clue they were one of the chosen retailers until he got back. He jokingly complained about not getting a warning.

The Chicago shop was told by a BOTL when he called in (as it was his local shop), and the owner was so excited and asked the BOTL to get the info out on another forum right away.

I would guess the only shop that might have had a heads up was Gloucester in Boston as Pete's good friends with him.

Actually the Boris is/was part of the Actor series. Boris refers to Boris Karloff (the stage name for William Henry Pratt) who played Frankenstein.

Interestingly he also starred in the Mummy which is supposed to be next years release.

Face and Drac were not very good. The Frank was great. Boris was not a Monster series cigar. Let's hope the Wolfman is better.

From the few reviews I read, the Wolfman is closer to the Frank, so I have some hopes.

Worst case, if I don't like them (hell, I still don't know what I like and almost gave up cigars the other night thanks to a bad stick), I'll move them on here or elsewhere.

:tpd: I also liked the Face.(proof that if we all liked the same smokes there would be very few options when you visit your local B&M) I loved the Frank and in my opinion has been the best so far and thought the Boris was the second best of the releases. Yes, the Boris was not technically a Monster but they were released the same time as the Drac and distributed in the same fashion. The Drac was not spectacular but I honestly think it was rushed and still very green when it hit the shops. I got rid of most of the Dracs I had but did hold on to a few to see if they improved with age. The Drac was a bit of a fiasco year anyway with the box issues and the contest going to hell due to legal issues. The nice thing about the Monster series is even if you get a box and decide you don't like them it's not like you are going to be stuck with them. You can always turn around and sell them and I can almost guarantee there will be a line of guys gunning for them. So yes it sucks that you have to buy blindly but the market for these is so that you'll never be stuck with a box of smokes that you don't enjoy.
I am anxious to try the Wolfman as I am a big Sumatra guy so I can't wait to see how this blend smokes.

I'm with Kevin, I enjoyed the Face a lot. Got lots of good caramely sweetness. That said, the RG was quite large and it burned the slowest I've ever had one of comprable size burn. It got a little old toward the end

One of my favorite tats for this reason. Still doesn't beat black jar though....

Re: The Wolfman

I also really enjoyed the Face. I will say that I didn't even try one until a couple months ago, so I never had it when it was fresh. That could make a difference. I had my first Drac this past weekend and it was nothing spectacular. Unfortunately I was never able to get my hands on a Frank or Boris, so I don't have any experience with those. I have high hopes for this release, I plan on letting them sit for a good long rest before trying one though.

I know I'm in the minority here but I just don't care for Tat's. I've smoked a few regular release cigars and did not like them at all. I also had a Tat Cojono 2003 and 2009 and didn't care for those either. For the price there are many stick that I'd rather spend my money on.

Smoke what you like and like what you smoke. There are a few lines that are widely regarded by other people that I just don't like at all. The beauty of cigars is no one's tastes are the same.

I was in your position about 7-8 months ago. Couldn't figure out why you guys enjoyed em so much. Eventually my palate changed, and now I'm a full fledged Tat ho.

Moral of the story: Smoke what you like, like what you smoke, but don't write things off for eternity, you may find yourself enjoying them down the road.

It's crazy out there for the dress boxes. My buddy called the one shop that was chosen that is local and they told him he was number 104. So it looks like unless a lot of people back out he is S O L. If you have a local shop that is a Tat dealer I would check them out as the regular dealers I think get a couple dress boxes and a bunch of non dress. I was able to score dress boxes on the Drac and Boris locally from a shop that wasn't chosen pretty late in the game too and I could gotten a dress box of the Face from the same shop too but I had already gotten a dress box from another vendor so I just took a non dress box from my local guy so somebody else would have a chance at getting a dress box since I already had one. Also keep in mind the only reason why I got so lucky on the local shop being they were one of the 13 chosen this year is because I put my name on a reserve list 3 months ago before anyone even knew they would be chosen. I was just hoping to maybe snag one of the few dress boxes they got or worse case scenario a non dress box. Low an behold they came up on the list this year.

I got a dress box with my name on it already, but I am up in the air about this one. I liked the Face, not so much the Drac, but I really liked his TAA exclusives lately. I may get it and split the rest off for sale. I'll let you know after they arrive.

I figure I can tie up about 7 dress boxes so far. When they arrive, I plan to weave them into a skirt and gird my loins with them, all the while singing the Pete Johnson hymn I wrote. It's got a nice Island Jazz sound to it.

Yeah, just because you didn't get in on a list with the 13 doesn't mean you're out of the game. The top 130 Tat retailers (chances are pretty good if you have a local with a Tat contract, they're on this list) will each be getting 2 dress boxes and some amount of plain boxes. Call up your local and ask if they got the Face last year, if they did chances are they'll get the Wolfman, so ask to be on the list.
