And they were the ones who were in and out in 5 minutes.

You may have felt over-dressed but it demonstrated to them that you were serious about the opportunity and cared enough to look your best.

All the better since it sounds like you did good. Trust me the goatee hair nets are pure suckage.

Skip the tie. It's overkill, I've been 100% at job interviews 7/7. I ALWAYS wear slip on dress shoes, my nicest jeans and a button up shirt untucked. Comb your hair, shave and success. Overdressing will show that you're desperate and have no confidence. If you smoke, DON'T before hand. Once they hire you, they won't care but at the interview it's off putting.

Seems you overdressed, Ah well. Good luck anyways man!

After you get hired, you should grow the King Leonidas type beard from 300.

Whole Foods is like Publix, but organic. Seeing as they get a lot of applicants, and they also scout for potential growth, dressing professionally probably is in your favor.

But also, seeing as you're former Armed Forces, they'd be jerks not to hire you. If I were hiring and I had to choose between two sloppy dudes and a someone well dressed who also was in the Air Force... uh yea.

What kind of jobs have you applied for? I would never dream of walking into an interview with my shirt un-tucked. Over dressing does not show desperation it shows respect. The only thing that shows lack of confidence is when you act as so.

Right, so would it be sloppy dude #1 with the flannel shirt or sloppy dude #2 with the gangbanger jeans?

Well done, D!

Sounds like you made a favorable impression... 40 minutes after the other two guys sounds like you impressed them. :tu

Hope it goes well from here forward. I know they will be getting a hard worker.

Want to use me for a reference? :D

Anything under $15 an hour and I'm not wearing a tie. At a certain point overdressing does show desperation and lack of confidence...say you apply at mcdonalds......yeah....walmart...yep. Certain jobs all you need to do is walk in dressed decently and be very confident. This has been my case every time. Of course I'm 24 and haven't applied for any job over $30,000 a year.

McDonald's just called, they'll said they'll pay you $15.25/hr as a manager, but you have to wear a bowtie.

And clown shoes.

I hate being late for threads! My only suggestion, that I didn't see mentioned would be to TRY NOT TO BE MEAN!

It would appear that it went well. If they had no interest in you then they wouldn't keep you in there so long. A long interview is not a guarantee but it's a great sign.

Wish you the best Brother!

Re: Job Interview Today!

Hello Darrell and I hope all went well at your interview today with WF'.

I just saw this thread this afternoon and it appears you had loads of great advise early on before the interview.

I would of added, know something about the company. In essence, go to their web site and find out about the origin of WF, where are they at now, and where are they going in the future with the business. There's much knowledge on a companies web site to take into an interview. Because, one of the questions that any company will ask you is "What do you know about our company?" and "Why don't you tell us something about Whole Foods from your knowledge of our company." This is the chance to really shoot your wad and impress them about your knowledge of their company.

And as been mentioned before, and regardless of the wage, salary of the position, there is nothing wrong about wearing a suit and tie to your interview. Hair cut and clipped fingernails and looking well groomed is always part of the interview.

Being a vet is a big plus as well:tu

I just hope you answered well when asked how to use a left-handed meat cleaver buddy. Hope you didn't F that all to H***;)

Keeping our fingers crossed for you....

If you're getting a second interview and plan on shooting your wad, do it away from the meat, please. ;)

Well brother just saw this. Sounds like it went well. As for the tie I say dress your best. I know I carry myself better dressed well. I also think anything you can do to set your self apart in a good way can't hurt. My last interview I wore a jacket and tie. After I got the job my new boss asked why I wore a tie to the interview. I said "you remembered I wore a tie therefore it did it's job".
Best of luck.

Yeah that is true 1/8 of an inch is the longest they usually want facial hair. MAYBE a quarter inch but no longer.

If I don't get hired, I'll just show up at his house about 3 am on Saturday in a ski mask. I'm generous, I'll allow him a rare opportunity to re-evaluate his decision.

I hope he doesn't take my kindness for weakness.

Well, no word from Whole Foods as of yet. He said by end of day today at the latest.

In other more EXCITING news...

Last week I applied for a job at the USGS (U.S. Geological Survey) and I didn't have some documents that they wanted so I figured I was SOL.

Well, they e-mailed me yesterday and asked for the documents (which arrived yesterday in the mail) because they want to consider me further for the position, currently I am the #1 candidate.

This would be a great CAREER move for me. Cross your fingers.

I have been a Federal / Military contactor a few times, but the KSA and whole process has kept me from ever trying to apply for FTE work for Govt.

My dad won a presidential management award and we met the Sec. of Interior along with President in the 70's. There is a lot of pride to the USGS.
