Soft Cell — "Tainted Love"
Dexys Midnight Runners – "Come On Eileen" (I actually liked the whole album)
a-ha — "Take On Me" (One of the great early videos)
"The Safety Dance" — Men Without Hats
"Video Killed the Radio Star" — The Buggles

Wow this list takes me back to junior high. The era when I bough Bruce Willis' album the Return of Bruno on cassette and vinyl. Yikes...

that place Europe is probably where your ancestors came from Bob ;) And it were European scientists that 'invented' electricity, not Benjamin Franklin. So yeah, we have electricity and we can afford it, not like California ;)

I do a Frank Sinatra version of "I Touch Myself" when I do karaoke. There is never a dry eye in the house.

Same era as Drivers Seat, one of the first 45's I ever bought was 'Shakedown Cruise' by Jay Ferguson.

(Just looked this up and he did Thunder Island too! So maybe he doesn't really qualify as a one-hit-wonder!)

The B-side of Shakedown Cruise was pretty bad as I remember. I owned very few 45's back then that had good B-sides :)

The B-side of Soul Man by the Blues Brothers was 'Rubber Biscuit'. It was probably the best B-side of all my 45s!

Years ago (maybe on Dr. Demento?) I heard a Sinatra-esque version of "Whole Lotta Love". It was hilarious.

The original was, he wrote the song. Can't think of anybody sane who would cover that song.
