Re: Heritage Dr. Pepper and Throwback Mtn. Dew

Just swung by Target and discovered that all Pepsi, Mt. Dew & Dr. Pepper 12-packs (cans) are on sale for $3 each + CRV through tomorrow. This includes throwback Dew, Heritage Dr. Pepper and Throwback Pepsi. Apparently there is also a $1 off a 12-pack of Pepsi products coupon on Target's website, which you can print multiple times. I don't know if the coupon works for Dr. Pepper, but it should work for Mtn. Dew as "Pepsi Co" is clearly indicated as the manufacturer on the Throwback Mtn. Dew.

I have no idea if this $3 for 12-pack sale is national or by region, in this case Northern CA.

Mario - I grabbed a 12-pack of Heritage Dr. Pepper for you.

Both the Throwback Mountain Dew and Pepsi are good. Can't say they are significantly better, taste a little cleaner and different but I do enjoy both of them. I had been seeing them both in cans for a few months, but just got the 20 oz. in the last month or so. I am not a big cola fan but the Pepsi is far better than Coke and comparable to Mexi-Coke. :tu

I miss the Mountain Dew (and sodas in general) that come in glass bottles. Soft drinks that are in plastic bottles taste quite different from drinks that are in glass bottles. The throwback Mt. Dews that are sold in my area come in glass bottles, so I'm not sure that the formula is different, but that the lastic flavor is not infused in the Throwback drinks b/c they are served in glass bottles. The glass container may be the difference in the cleaner taste. I miss the glass bottle days (they haven't been seen around here on a regular basis since the early '90s).

I've never compared the two in such a way butit makes sense. Also, thanks for the tip. There are several Whole Foods near by. 365 is their brand if I'm not mistaken and this is just one more excuse to get myself in there for a bit of good shopping.

Be warned:
Whole Foods in the bay area = Outrageously Overpriced

I say that all the time Andy.:tu The Pepsi's in the 16 ounce bottles were lots different than they are today. Nehi orange and grape aint what they used to be when the bottles were glass neither.

Love the throwback Pepsi. Had the Mountain Dew yesterday and it was meh.

My 17 yo Mt Dew expert said it lacked the "kick".

Tried the Dr. Pepper- it was ok, but seemed very flat. Got a bottle of Mt. Dew and Pepsi that I have not yet tried. I also have to agree that sodas in glass bottles are better tasting than plastic or aluminum.

Finally found the Mt Dew today. I must say that its amazing that changing one ingrediant will change the taste as dramatically as it does!!
I thought that it was a little sweeter than the regular Mt Dew, but I didn't find myself being as thirsty after as I usually am.
I'd get it again!

the throwback mountain dew does not contain orange juice, which is a main ingredient in the normal production Dew. i didnt care for the throwback version at all

Sugar!!!! I don't care how bad it is for you. All the crap they have come up with to replace it are just as bad!

I have yet to find any of the heritage Dr. Pepper. I am a DP (ahhh don't go there) fan. The Dr. and I are tight.

Found the throw back Pepsi, just finished a 12 pack. Here's my review. I thought that it was good flavor, flatter than regular Pepsi (but then again I like flat). Now saying that, I am a jock Daniels fan and Jack and Cokes (Pepsis as the case may be) are a regular in my glass after work. I do not like the way that the throwback mixes with it. It changes the taste and it's not for the better at all.
So by Throwback for regular drinking, and regular Pepsi for mixing.

I used to drink Crown Royal and Dr. Pepper on a regular basis, so after trying and enjoying a Dr. Pepper Heritage, I had to try one of the Heritages with some Crown. I found the same basic concept as above - the Heritage is great for drinking on its own, but did not mix well. I'm not sure how to describe the difference, but it does change the flavor considerably... and not for the better.

Can't find it here in New Jersey . Sprite and Coke in glass bottles is my soda weekness . I don't drink alot of soda but when I see those in glass I just can't resist . I used to like the Pepper when I was a kid so I guess it's the sweetener they use now that I don't like .

I have to second the bourbon and Dr. Pepper phenom, it is the single best mixer for whiskey
I have ever found.

As to the TB Mtn Dew, they can have it. Picked up 24 cans of it one Saturday, and by the
time I was done, I knew I'd never need another can. Like the man said, where's the tang? OJ babay.

Re: Heritage Dr. Pepper and Throwback Mtn. Dew

For me when the Pepsi and Mountain Dew throwback's came out last year (two years ago? can't remember) I tried it side by side with regular HFCS pepsi and MD. I really couldn't tell enough of a difference that I'd drink one or the other based on taste, but hey, anything without HFCS is great in my book.
