What a rediculous thread to start, seriously. The title just says lets argue, arguing in person sucks arguing online is ridiculous, if someones made up their mind that they don't like a cigar who cares. Its our right to hate or love or be indifferent, don't try to convince anyone otherwise and life will go a whole lot smoother. Thats the purpose of a online forum, everyone gives their individual experiences and opinions and people take from it what they want. I have not purchased a a bundle/box over $50, so if someone comes knockin anything from my precious collection so be it, I like what I smoke, you smoke what you like. $.02

Gonna go enjoy a 5 Vegas Gold Toro or a Sol Cubano Connecticut Toro with my morning coffee- yum

Smoked a Genghis Khan....tasted like dirt.

Smoked a Series 1887 Churchill...tasted like dirt.

Smoked an Ancient Warrior...tasted like dirt.

Smoked a Black Dragon....tasted like dirt.

Smoked a Legend....tasted foul and sour.

Smoked a Regent...again, foul and sour.

Smoked whatever the churchill barberpole version is...tasted like air.

Stop smoking the ones the dog has buried in the backyard and maybe the dirt taste will go away?:r

Smoked a few,the Vintage, Royal Brigade and one other I can't remember. Usually have burn issues and Flavor is kinda "meh" for the price.

I think this cigar is more "hype" than anything.:2

People hate on Gurka's because they dont like them... Its okay to hate on them, this is just a hobby. I enjoy sports another hobby, and there are certain teams I enjoy hating on, they suck IMO, it sort of keeps things fun. Actually hate is probably the wrong word, to hate means you must care and I dont think that many of the 'so called haters really care one way or another about Gurkha"

But why the hating, probably has to do some with Gurkha's own percieved value of its cigars, the MSRP on these are stupid, anyone thats done any research knows that Gurkha's can usually be bought for pennies on the dollar comapred to the MSRP. Its a damn shame anyone would spend 10 bucks on any cigar that could be bought for 2.00 bucks online, and this happens with Gurkha all the time.

You like Gurkha, cool... to each his own, Check C-bid for prices, at 2.00 a stick I've been know to smoke a few, but at MSRP NEVER!

Personally, I think gurkhas are the best cigars in the world.

Oh no, I don't discount them because of the blowhard, ridiculous advertising, although it would be easy to do so.

The stupid names don't bother me at all either.

From CI:
Few cigars can match the caliber of Gurkha handmade cigars. Considered to be some of the world’s finest and most prestigious super-premiums, the Gurkha brand represents a small-batch selection of ultra-elusive cigars that routinely receive top ratings in addition to ’Best of the Best’ honors from the Robb Report. Always pushing the envelope with exotic, high-end blends, Gurkha got another trick up its mighty sleeve, and it’s called the Black Dragon.

Dressed in a dark and toothy, 5-year old Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper, the Black Dragon hails from Honduras and combines a vintage mixture of Dominican long-leaf tobaccos secured within a Cameroon binder. The smoke is thick and chewy, with a rich, leathery core and elegant hints of earth, complemented by an assortment of sweet spices on the finish. Medium in body and complex, yet buttery smooth, the Black Dragon is unlike any Gurkha you’ve tried before.

Naturally, these cigars come magnificently packaged.
{instert turd in a pretty box joke here}Inventory is extremely limited.

I mean, come on, that dirt taste is ELEGANT, dang it, so dig in and enjoy.

As I've already mentioned, I think these cigars are the best in the world.

Needless to say, I only buy mine at my local B&M on nights of a full moon, to get that perfect melange of gestalt and gravity that ensures a primo cigar.

And no, the earthy taste doesn't bother me. In fact, I don't even smoke these cigars. I make cigar tea out of them and use the tea to keep slugs off of my strawberries.

I've tried the rest and none could remotely approach the slug repelling properties of a gurhka.

Funnily enough this is the best point noted in the whole thread. In my humble baseless opinion particularly the bolded portion "The title just says lets argue" not that I would normally do so, but I find myself questioning the motives of the OP.

For some reason, (overall) i really enjoy them, ever since i had my first Master Select this past September with a glass of Gin and Tonic.

FWIW - I liked my Regent toros and legends back in the day. It's all a matter of personal perspective and where we are in our own personal journey of exploration of cigars. Heavily promoted cigars tend to be tried by a larger audience than those not as widely promoted. We all are creatures of habit and of our own inventory. It's human nature that many would smoke and enjoy these cigars. They are not awful cigars by any stretch when compared to others at their actual selling prices. The difference between list and actual prices is the issue for many regarding these. For $ 1-3 a stick these represent a good value for what they are.

Me and Gurkhas today... well it's not "back in the day" anymore so relative to things now I have a different perspective. The cigars haven't changed, I have.

I have had 3 Ghurkas and one was very good, the Park Avenue 44 that I just reviewed. The others were so-so - not bad, just not what I'm looking for, pretty weak and simple. I have never had one burn poorly.

I would smoke them again and will purchase more when my local B&M has another event but I won't pay MSRP for 'em.

:tpd::tpd::tpd::tpd:

My buddy was just smoking the Black Dragon, and I told him it was a great smoke for him cause he got it for free. There are so many cigars that top the Gurkha brand for the price they ask. I enjoy the doble maduro from time to time if I can get it on a deal. That to me is no more than a $4 cigar, not the $8 they typically ask. They are insanely over priced. In addition, I feel that their blends all run similiar in flavor profile. :2

Remembered a few more

Legend

G3

G5

Regent

Nepalese warrior.

Warlord

Beast

Titan

Super fuerte

Anyway. Seems to me the venom comes from the price and advertising along with the not preferring the taste. Also mentioned was consistancy and construction.

Now the consistancy and construction I've not noticed and I've smoked a lot of gurkhas is actually one of the things I like. Only a few of the internet only ones were a little bit inconsistent. The super fuerte comes to mind. Probably my least favorite Gurkha. But I think I understand it more. Which was the point of the post. Not to argue. Thanks guys.

Re: Gurkha hatin

Like a moth to a flame,,,,,I am drawn into this post because for the last few years I have seen so many threads about how awful Gurkhas are and don't see any thing specific as to the "why" but I do hear that they don't like that there are so many brands out there. I do like the Beast, Titan, Centurian, Warlord and Regent and a few others. I dislike some of the other brands they carry only because I do not like the taste,,,,not because it is easy to climb aboard the "I don't like Gurkha" bandwagon. I and some friends did a test of some of the Gurkha cigars on some of our friends who disliked the Gurkha brand on all levels and we traded them straight across on 3 brands of cigars for them and they did with us as well. Each person got a 5 pak to try with only numbers on the cigar and we all gave our opinions and guess what? Nearly every smoker picked the Gurkha cigars as a good cigar and these were people who swore they hated them. When you take the bands off and let your taste decide what you like you'll be surprised as to what you really like.

Re: Gurkha hatin

I think the core members of this forum have been smoking cigars for some time and as Klugs touched on the Gurkha's seem to be a part of "cigar evolution." They just are a part of the evolution most of us have already been through and likely will not return to. I used to smoke a lot of Gurkha's, especially during my days of heavy involvement with cbid. I remember liking the Expedition and the Titan. At the time I felt they were good smokes for what I was paying for them on cbid. Now, whatever inventory I have is usually used as giveaways. I don't hate the cigars or the brand, as with most NC's I just don't smoke them anymore.

So after seeing this thread I had to light up a Gurkha Enigma I had when I got drunk and bought smokes (got to stop doing that)

Since this is my first Gurkha here are my thoughts as I smoke this right now.

Burn and draw are great

Wrapper looks really good

Taste.....

I can see why people say dirt, but its like a sweet dirt. Like if you put maple syrup on the ground and just licked it up.

but its not a real strong taste

Its not a horrible cigar, but it is very one dimensional of a sweet dirt taste that doesn't linger very long.

Would I try another type of Gurkha? Yeah, I got 4 left from that CI deal..

but I wouldn't buy this version ever again.

Speaking of poo ....

http://www.cigarsinternational.com/p...m=CS-KLB&cat=3

Yeah ... infuse monkey poo with tobacco and you're all set. Oh, thats right, its a civit, not a monkey. I feel so much better now after you've collected its poo containing coffee beans off of the jungle floor, roasted them, made coffee with it, and then infused that into your cigars.

I'm shocked this isn't a gurkha. The fact that its made with poo but has a "pleasantly sweet tip" is somehow reassuring .....

Lets see:

"Pepin" Garcia- Cigar Legend (no pun intended)
Padron's- Cigar Legends
Fuente's- Cigar Legends
Oliva's- Cigar Legends

Kaizad Hansotia- Watch guy.....who bought the Gurkha name for a song and marketed the crap out of it.

"Kaiser" may know marketing, but he must gargle with potting soil if he helps "develop" the blends(which I'm not a 100% sure he even does).

Sadly, its getting to the point that anyone with a thick wallet can sell "the greatest cigars in the world". Gurkha for one, Arganese for another. I've tried many of these "cigar companies"( I use that term loosely, seeing as they don't have factory themselves, they just job it out) offerings some are good, but to me most aren't worth crap.

But, as a wise man said "Smoke what YOU like, and like what YOU smoke."
