Re: roaster question

Turns out the roast I thought I burnt turned out nicely, its hard for me to tell whats a first crack and 2nd crack cause it sounds like popcorn once it starts cooking, but looks dark so not sure when to throw on cool cycle, but I just roasted one past the popping it stopped and just started to make sound again so that must be what the 2nd crack is but looks so dark out of the roaster. and the one i did that was light was just before the first crack really got started good. I mixed that with one that was right before the crack and turns out light but good clean taste.
Man this is fun I'm gonna play a little some more. maybe I'll ask Todd <Revsmoke> if I can come over on a roasting day and see the experienced do it if I have off that day.

Re: roaster question

Second crack normally starts about 2 minutes after first crack has stopped.
It's also the most important time to keep a very close eye on the roast as it's when over roasting and risk of fire is greatest

'zactly.
Follow the sound and your nose.

I'm sorta miserable. I'm on Ft Lauderdale beach for the week, roasted a pound of beans, forgot the grinder, and am on my 4th day of Starbucks

Rather than spending far too much at Charbucks for charcoaled floor sweepings, I would have gone and grabbed a whirly blade.

yeah or look for a biglots or dollar general with a grinder... a cheap grinder beats paying an arm and leg at bucksstar anyday

Re: roaster question

You can roast even on fry pan
Quality depens on temperature and how you can distribute between product that you roast. And how stable it will be.
