Go the whole nine yards, buy a box, seal the pvc with proper humidification and bury them 2 yards deep for 10 years. Then be presently surprised in the future. It's a herf capsule!!!

If you want easy access to them but have a way to keep them from getting too hot, I'd just start a coolerdor, it's not terribly expensive.

I second the freeze them and put them in a cooler suggestion and also the 8 ft. dia. hole suggestion. You could bury one of those plastic water tanks.

I have been using Shilala's beads and for the last two weeks my humidity has been rock solid at 67%. (I charged them before use slightly as per the instructions on the website to raise the RH a bit, I like my cigars a little moist.)

Why would you want to do this? Seems like 3 days in the freezer is a whole lot easier than digging a frickin hole! But if you must be sure and take some pics.

When I first read this I immediately back to that thread. He put down a bunch of cigars in like a footlocker or something planning on 10+ years of aging or something. Definitely pretty extreme.

Do you have a house built on a slab? If so, the slab should be relatively cool. Put the humidor on the slab and a Styrofoam picnic cooler over it.

I say get some balloons or a hot air balloon and float them up high where the air is much cooler!!!;)

I used to live in an apartment that got up to 90 during the summer. I bought a 150qt cooler and put my humidors in the cooler. I also put an ice pack wraped in a towel in the cooler and changed it daily. Doing that will keep your cigars cool without sucking all the humidy out of the air. It worked pretty well, and then I filled the cooler with cigars, and had to buy a house with AC. It may sound crazy, but so does digging a hole in the back yard for your cigars.

The best advice in my opinion is to freeze them and move on.:tu

My friend, if you stay around here long enough, I guarantee that you will soon need to figure out storage for many more cigars than 20-40. I'm with John, get yourself an insulated cooler (bigger than what you think you need here), throw your 20-40 cigars in there and put it in the absolute coolest part of the house.
Then be prepared to buy another cooler!:D

Most the cigar producing countries are well above 70 all summer long. Many lack air conditioning yet the cigars are fine.

It's been a hot summer, and my slab is at a constant 80 degrees. If I'm going to have money in cigars, I don't want to worry about them. I'm good at worrying and a couple of hours in the backyard will be worth the trouble. Actually, it will be fun!

I'm used to cellar temps for wine and beer, so it makes sense that cigars would prefer those temps over the 80-90s of July and August.

The plan, so far, is to use a 4' long section of 8 or 12" dia. pvc with a solvent weld cap on the end. Dig a hole and insert. I'll figure out a locking cap or maybe just use a screw cap and hope that none of the local cigar smoking kids find my stash!

I will talk with a local supplier of pvc, etc. today. I may opt for a larger diameter pipe if it makes sense.

So yesterday I read this thread and when I saw MCS say it was a silly idea I thought to myself,

"Self? There is no way this is going any farther, I mean the local authority on all things silly has deemed this one sillier than a monkey on a rock wearing a tin oil hat eating banana cream pie!"

So I buried the memory of my Mom´s family burying jarred unripened corn mash in the Army ammo cans sealed with cosmoline three feet down during the hot Mississippi summers for the same reason.

Will it work? If you seal correctly and keep the sticks in a water resistant packaging yeah it will work.

Is it worth 36 hours of digging, putting it together, burying and sealing?

Well, that depends on what kind of man you are!

Ha ha ha, I´m sorry, I just think this would be a very cool project although it would probably end up being more economical and efficient with a cooler and some beads however it would be something that hasnt been done here yet.
