yeah all 10 of us out here haven't got around to raising taxes so those darn kids don't switch to just buying cheaper forms of tobacco :r

It is important to raise tax rates on all tobacco products to prevent switching to a lower-taxed and lower-priced tobacco product or initiation.
Yeah right.

I like all those "none's" here in PA. I have to pay 6% sales though.
Explains why CI and Famous remain so cheap.

GA looks pretty good! :)

Alaska is 99% on wholesale price per stick, that 75% is the base that they add more too but what they add isn't a tax. They effectively doube the cost of any cigar. And don't forget shipping is always more money too. USPS is too slow and its too cold so Next Day Air is only option. When a Macanudo Robusto costs $9 you know you are in trouble. And this was before SCHIP. Lived there for 6 years and bought maybe 12 cigars tops.

It's actually 23% of the wholesale price on cigars, 10% is for chewing baccy and snuff

I think the 75% of Alaska was misread for Arizona. Arizona actually has reasonable taxes. I can find deals throughout the area...

As of July 1, 2009

California tax is 41.11% down from 45.13%

still high, but a decrease is a decrease.

In the UK it is £169 per kilo of cigars plus 15% VAT ("value" added tax). That changes a £2 robusto to around £4 depending on the weight. We is robbed!

The local B&M here charges 17% on the sticker price, not the wholesale price. Hmmm...dipping into pockets.

I grabbed a $7.50 stickered LFD maduro chiselito - and it rang up at $9.34! For some, not bad...for me, too much! They charge the 17% plus an addition 6.5% Ohio sales tax. Total = 23% mark-up on every stick.

I asked how they compete with internet prices. He said they can't, but all of us are supposed to be paying an ohio usage tax...meaning, we send the government 17% above everything we buy on-line to shi[ into Ohio.

Not sure most folks even know that usage tax exists, let alone pay it.

Makes it pretty tough to enjoy a cigar. But, what are ya going to do?

As of July 1, 2010

the California Tobacco tax will be 33.02%

That is just 8 points off the rate it was in 1997, before it tripled.

and I am reminded yet again why I primarily use that thar' "intrawebs" thang. The nannies try to strangle the tobacco users so they can make the huge revenues, and the people simply bypass their confiscatory taxation. I thought it was 75% instead of 70% here, but in either case, regrettable, for the culture, small business, and the individual here.
