Re: Suggestions on knives?
In a knife that small The serrations don't do much for me. Also it costs more :( . I have both the grip and mini grip love them both. Also I paid 60 for my grip and 65 for the mini grip. Unfortunately now they are scarce or price jacked.

Re: Suggestions on knives?
If you want to buy one knife and never have to buy another, without spending a bucketload of money get the Al Mar SERE 2000. Its built like a brick shithouse. Its got the feel, fit, and finish of a custom made knife with the price tag of a reasonable production model. Its a 'tactical' knife that you can still beat the hell out of at the camp site without ruining it. The opening action is so smooth and fast that most people ask me if the knife is a switchblade or assisted opening the first time they see me open it. The VG-10 steel sharpens easily and holds a nice edge for a long time. I've been carrying mine for about a year and have done everything from preparing food to cutting cardboard to hammering in nails with the handle and the knife has never even come close to disappointing me. The pocket clip is also fantastic
The only drawback to it is the weight, its a bit on the hefty side but it rides amazingly light in the pocket and is pretty well balanced. http://www.almarknives.com/sere-2000-p-56.html |

Re: Suggestions on knives?
I'm no expert, but Coldsteel usually has a pretty good selection for not too bad a price. And I know people who carry a knife every day who pretty much shop nowhere else. Good luck!

Re: Suggestions on knives?
Benchmade, Kershaw, Cold Steel, CRKT, Spyderco are all good companies. For my EDC knife I carry a Smith & Weston spring assist folder. Its cheap, does the job, and if I lose it its no big deal

Re: Suggestions on knives?
I carry both the Kershaw Cyclone and the Mini Cyclone every day, Great Knives.

Re: Suggestions on knives?
If your price range is sub ~$100. IMHO Benchmade cannot be beat. Also if you need a camping knife you could look into fixed blades. Something like a R.A.T. or an ESEE knife would be great. The Benchmade warranty is also the best out there. They send out free screws and pocket clips!
I carry a Strider SMF, I've managed to wear down just about everything else. I've sent back 3-4 Benchmades due to blade play from use I put on my knives. If you want to buy just ONE knife I suggest Strider SMF/SNG (depending on state law) or a fixed blade Busse knife. |
Re: Suggestions on knives?
I picked up an SOG tac knife at Lowes for $40. I have been carrying it at work for 2 years now. Not a single problem
