Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I attended Whiskey Fest in San Francisco last October...great event (even though it was taken over by Shanken). Had the chance to sample lots of Scotch, Bourbon, Whiskey and Whisky.
Highlights were the Glen Rothes line and the opportunity to sample some of the best of the Pappy line. However, the biggest highlight was meeting Master Distiller Lincoln Henderson of Woodford fame. He is the genius behind the new Angel's Envy...truly some tasty stuff! :dr Here's a quick write-up http://www.bourbonblog.com/blog/2010...-envy-bourbon/ Can't wait to get my hands on some |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Has anyone tasted the Angel's Envy Bourbon yet?
If so, what are your thoughts? Is it pricey? |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Never heard of it but it sounds interesting probably not available here :(
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Find a new shop and wow they had a great selection.
I was curious and ask if they had any Pappy van winkle 15 or 20. Guy went into the back and got me the 20.... http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...k/IMG_6281.jpg |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

Hello all,
New to the forum and it looks as if the most important things in life are here, beer, spirits, and cigars. Bengalman, I grew up in Cincinnati, miss it. Here in North Carolina you can make 200 gallons of "spirits" a year. I was wondering if there are any makers here that can give me some information on distilling. Thanks Michael |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
bought a bottle not so long ago and I finish it pretty quick. I had to pick up another one...

Opened a bottle of Michter's Straight Rye the other night. I would be happy to have to drink this all the time, great stuff :D

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Had a pour of Knob Creek last night while smoking an '08 Mag 46. Went together very nicely. :)
I need to make a run to the store...my bourbon and scotch selection has mysteriously shrunk! ;) |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Made my first bourbon purchase yesterday Elijah Craig 18 year old Single Barrel along with a Partagas Series P No. 2. Great bourbon, great smoke.

Buffalo Trace just started producing half gallons to my knowledge. That or they are new to GA. :banger

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Picked these up last night. Bang for the buck, Prichards Double Barreled is pretty darn good. My only negative is that the finish is a bit tart.

One day I will buy some Pappy's, one day :D On a side note had a pour of Elijah Craig 12 yo at a bar the other night, and it was 8 bucks!? I realized when I got the bill I should have forked over the few extra bucks for the 18 yo. Definitely worth it IMO |

What shop do you go to ? I frequent Minks in Marietta, and he also gave me a tasting of it, that's what made me buy it, it's amazing.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
OK here is the question, does anyone know what type of cigar is being smoked on the Pappy Van Winkles Label?

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Just started easing into the bourbons pool a few weeks ago. I see a fast and slippery slope ahead and I have to thank who ever it was that suggested the ice cubes with the Woodford Reserve (Maybe Bangelman?). I tasted a glass neat and although nice, wasn't hitting my taste profiles and I couldn't grab the maple/sweetness I've read from others. Second glass was over two cubes of ice and man what a colorful difference. The complete spectrum changed to lip smackingly tasty.
Some very good suggestions in these pages. I've started a list of bottles to grab and you will all be recieving your portion of the bill to help compensate for my new found hobby very soon. :tu :noon |

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Over the weekend at the VCM herf we sampled both the 20 and 23 year Pappy back to back to compare the difference. It was pretty significant. Some mentioned that they make a 25 year pappy. Anyone ever had the chance to sample that one yet? I'm on a mission to find a bottle now. :)

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Great thread! My wife just surprised me with a weekend trip to the bourbon trail in April. I have chosen Four Roses, Buffalo Trace, Woodford, and if we have time Wild Turkey. All I have to do now is find a good restaurant in the Lexington area.
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
FINALLY Buffalo Trace is available in NJ. Picked a bottle up today after work for $23.99 +tax. I'll finally be able to try this often discussed bourbon. :tu
What's strange is they have distributed their antique collection here for a long while. Why NJ didn't/couldn't get BT, I have no idea. |
