On my way home to eat wings pick out a bourbon and Watch the SEC Roll on!!! Hard to choose but I have narrowed it to Baker's, Woodfords Maple Finish, or buying something new.

We were sipping on some wonderful Woodford Reserve last night for the game. And of course a few smokes as well.

What do you guys prefer, Buffalo Trace or Willetts?
Haven't had the Willetts, but don't want to fork the cash 1st tasting.
The Willett I've had has been flat out good stuff. :dr
But if price is a concern then under $25 you'll be in good company with;

BT, 4 Roses SB, EC12, Weller SR.

Been wondering about the Willett. Nice bottle. My sister's store in Tennessee has it in, and I have been thinking about getting her to hold me a bottle. Think I'll tell her to go ahead.

I attended Whiskey Fest in San Francisco last October...great event (even though it was taken over by Shanken). Had the chance to sample lots of Scotch, Bourbon, Whiskey and Whisky.

Highlights were the Glen Rothes line and the opportunity to sample some of the best of the Pappy line.

However, the biggest highlight was meeting Master Distiller Lincoln Henderson of Woodford fame. He is the genius behind the new Angel's Envy...truly some tasty stuff! :dr Here's a quick write-up

Can't wait to get my hands on some

Has anyone tasted the Angel's Envy Bourbon yet?

If so, what are your thoughts?

Is it pricey?

Find a new shop and wow they had a great selection.
I was curious and ask if they had any Pappy van winkle 15 or 20. Guy went into the back and got me the 20....

Jealous. Pappy isn't offered anywhere near me as far as I've found. Hoping to score a bottle when I go to Atlanta in February.

Tonight I picked a bottle of Rebel Reserve going to let it sit until tomorrow night any thought on this one?

Hello all,
New to the forum and it looks as if the most important things in life are here, beer, spirits, and cigars.
Bengalman, I grew up in Cincinnati, miss it.
Here in North Carolina you can make 200 gallons of "spirits" a year. I was wondering if there are any makers here that can give me some information on distilling.
Thanks
Michael

Try the EC 12 yr. Most I have talked with like the 12 better than the 18 and its cheaper...win-win. Either way, you have a great pairing there bro, enjoy. :banger

Really? I actually prefer EC 18 by a wide margin. Either way, they are both good.

I've had both bottles and they are very different. The 18 is right on the edge - as oaky as a bourbon can get without going too far. The 12 is much more...rounded. Some decent complexity on the 12 and more balance.

Picked these up last night. Bang for the buck, Prichards Double Barreled is pretty darn good. My only negative is that the finish is a bit tart.

They half gallons are new to Georgia. BT and the distributor just recently inked a deal that gives Georgia complete coverage of all the BT production line, including the White Dog Mash 1, which is amazing. If you see it, buy it. It's in 375 ml bottles and is fresh from the still, has an amazing nose and a corn sweetness that is one of a kind.

:dr I concour on the Prichards

One day I will buy some Pappy's, one day :D

On a side note had a pour of Elijah Craig 12 yo at a bar the other night, and it was 8 bucks!? I realized when I got the bill I should have forked over the few extra bucks for the 18 yo. Definitely worth it IMO

Just from looking at it... no way to tell. Maybe with a phone call or some googling an answer can possibly be found.

Just started easing into the bourbons pool a few weeks ago. I see a fast and slippery slope ahead and I have to thank who ever it was that suggested the ice cubes with the Woodford Reserve (Maybe Bangelman?). I tasted a glass neat and although nice, wasn't hitting my taste profiles and I couldn't grab the maple/sweetness I've read from others. Second glass was over two cubes of ice and man what a colorful difference. The complete spectrum changed to lip smackingly tasty.

Some very good suggestions in these pages. I've started a list of bottles to grab and you will all be recieving your portion of the bill to help compensate for my new found hobby very soon.

Just a word to those that might be new to bourbons. Once you open a sealed bottle of bourbon, it starts a slow process of oxidation. This speeds up the less there is in the bottle (more room for air). The bourbon won't "go bad", in the sense that wine can turn to vinegar, it will lose flavors over time. Once it's down to 1/3 or less, may be time to have some friends over, and enjoy the remainder! So, try to finish up one bottle before opening another, or don't have too many different bottles open at one time.

Just food for thought for anyone new to this slope!!

Thanks for the heads up. At this time, I've been buying small bottles that I can finish in a week or two until I figure out what direction my taste are going to take me.:tu

Over the weekend at the VCM herf we sampled both the 20 and 23 year Pappy back to back to compare the difference. It was pretty significant. Some mentioned that they make a 25 year pappy. Anyone ever had the chance to sample that one yet? I'm on a mission to find a bottle now. :)

Great thread! My wife just surprised me with a weekend trip to the bourbon trail in April. I have chosen Four Roses, Buffalo Trace, Woodford, and if we have time Wild Turkey. All I have to do now is find a good restaurant in the Lexington area.

What's strange is they have distributed their antique collection here for a long while. Why NJ didn't/couldn't get BT, I have no idea.

That is pretty strange. I love BT, pretty versatile. Nice enough to sip and it's pretty good in an Old-Fashioned :)
