I don't think fighting and over reacting to a clean hit has ever saved a coaches job. I will leave it at that.

After I typed that Tom I realized you had to be joking. Ooo well either way Sharks have won 4 in a row. Wings are slowing down a little and its starting to look like a little after mid season things will start looking like most would expect them to.

I think the Sharks or the Kings will win the pacific, the Canucks the Northwest, the Hawks or Wings win the central. I keep wondering if the age of the Wings will become a factor down the stretch. The Central has been such a cake walk for the Wings for so many years. Its nice to see some of the teams putting up a fight.

Hawks win the Central, Mike? Dang, I am just hoping they make the playoffs! :r But all kidding aside, I am hoping they have gotten things turned around, and will only get better when Kane and Hossa get back.

I know ppl bang the age drum about the Wings every year, yet they usually have the best second half record of any team. That said, looks like we lost Cleary for a while. It's a shame too because he was on fire.

Anyone watching the World Jr.'s?

I have been off since last Thursday and will be until the 3rd.... How nice would it be to something like this to be going on in your home town and just go down and watch a game or 2 every day.

Keeping lots of track, been off the forum lately because I was in Buffalo! Caught the Can/Czk game and the Slvk/Ger game, also sadly a bills game :P Was great times! Cant wait until tonight's game! Even though I am back in Ottawa...

Bell Capital Cup starts tomorrow, those of you with kids playing puck peewee and under should consider the trip next year to ottawa!

Sharks implode in the third period for a second game in a row and get to play the Hawks tomorrow.
Could be a bad road trip

icehog3 12-30-2010 01:56 AM

Re: NHL '10 - '11 Thread

Turco will play tomorrow for the Hawks, Crawford is still down with the flu.

Toews is out 2 weeks with a shoulder injury, time for Hossa to step up and Kane to stop skating like a ballerina. Too much speed on the Sharks for Kane to play on only one side of the red line.

I haven't really watched them enough lately to have too much to say about them game to game. It's a lot easier to keep up with the local AHL team that I can go and watch whenever I want than to follow a team 600 miles away. If you want opinions on the Norfolk Admirals I have got them coming out the wazoo.

But I do have a few CBJ opinions...Mason is not the top tier goaltender they need. The team shows signs of brilliance but when they lose...they LOSE, the young players show potential but can't get things totally put together. The defense is slow, period.Inconsistent is the word that defines them.

There you drug it out of me :r

The B's have taken over first in the division And 3rd in the conference.:D

I know it's early but they have played a pretty good couple of games.
Florida panthers a little lazy but they got the W
The lightning much better.
But the Preds game last week when the fights broke out did this get the team to gel?
I hope so!:2

Hawks are at least back in the hunt, closing down the "games in hand" and staying with the pack. Leaving work early with my co-worlers to have some brews, wings, and watch them play the Sharks.

Is he playing for sure? I know Nitti played yesterday, so I assume he is.

I just realized the guy in the NHL that looks closest to me in his skating style is Douglas Murray. And the Sharks announcers were talking a couple games ago that while he is an extremely solid defenseman, his skating leaves a lot to be desired. :r

Missed the game well better you then me. The Sharks did that against the kings and wild. They crapped themselves against the Wild!!! Yeah that was sad. Did family time then helped parents set up their new TV :r

Just watched the highlights of the USA Ger WJRs. Proud of those boys. Dont know if they will take out Can again, but its nice to see us so dominate in a sport that is the 4h sport in our country behind football, baseball, and basketball. If it was our number one like our brothers to the north it would be interesting to see. That day will never come though. more than 3/4s of this country cares nothing for the sport. Not to bad.

It was an amazing experience. The whole place was intense, on the Pens goal the stadium was shaking.

Getting out of this parking garage, not an amazing experience.

Ty Conklin played goal in the first 3 Heritage/ Winter Classics (Edmonton, Buffalo and Chicago for the Wings), so he must be the real poster child. ;)

I think since this one was going to be more about the players than the venue, what better story for the casual fan than Crosby V. Ovechkin?

Re: NHL '10 - '11 Thread

You can't count a player being traded. Luls.

My point being why was this year about a rivalry? There have been three new style WCs and the Pens have played in two. At this rate they will play again in number 5. My point there are plenty of teams that deserve a chance. Rivalry or not, with so many teams in the league its crap for one team/ the leagues poster boy to play 2 of the three. Lets be honest Tom, this is the leagues show case game. They are promoting the game with who they want to be the face of the NHL. This is being used to try to win new fans not make fans of existing teams happy. Atleast they should just come out and say it. Hell just make it Cindy vs a different team every year.

Maybe Ovi will be in number 5 WC as the league looks to pimp its other ticket for those who arent Crosby fans.

In other news Sharks have moved into 4th are will hopefully overtake the Stars soon for third place.

VERY much hope they play next years WC in the Denver area....

I wouldn't overpay for any seat, but I'd try to get something fairly inexpensive, just for the experience of being to one.

Actually there have been 4, Mike, so Sid's only batting .500

Pens @ Sabres 2008
Wings @ Hawks 2009
Flyers @ Bruins 2010
Caps @ Pens 2011

I am not totally dsagreeing with your logic, Mike, and I think some discussion of specific teams and locations here might be fun.

Crap nothing like stepping on my dic] :r
You get my point though. I still think the league is pimping him.

I would just like to see a lot of other teams go before we see the same team again. Somehow I think we will see Crosby again before many other teams have gotten a chance. In the intrest of fairness to the fans of all the teams around the league I just dont dig that. I just dont see why the same team has already gone twice when there are so many other teams that should have a chance. Well I mean I know why, but I dont agree. I got to say I was happy with the outcome.

At Colorado would be fun, opponent...pick one, maybe Vancouver as they will eventually have to start including Canada

I also forgot to mention my opinion on this earlier

If the game is in a football stadium the Winter Classic would be best as a night time game

If the game is in a baseball stadium I would prefer daytime

Agree completely that Denver would be great for one of these. :tu

Reference Canada....this is from the same press release that announced the 2011 Winter Classic:

Quote:

The Calgary Flames will host an outdoor game against the Montreal Canadiens in February, 2011, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman confirmed Friday.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 20, at McMahon Stadium, home of the CFL's Calgary Stampeders. It's being dubbed the Heritage Classic — the same name given to the last NHL outdoor match on Canadian soil, held in November 2003 between the Canadiens and the Oilers at Edmonton's Commonwealth Stadium.

That's what I'm here for Pops :D

First win at the Joe for the Flyers since 1988 :td Wings played an uninspiring game. Got outplayed 1st and 2nd period and then turned it on in the 3rd. Our offense hasn't really been affected without Datsuyk and Cleary. Hudler is finally playing better.

I'm interested to see how Rolosson is going to play in net for the Lightning.. If he can go back to his Edmonton days then things could get interesting.

I was going to say something about Kane. Saw the clip when old man Selanne made Kane look not so good and drew the penalty. Hoping Sharks can catch the Stars in the next week.

I remember some people doubting the Canucks at the start of the year. They are in first if anyone is looking for them and seem to be on an upswing. Oo and Atlanta is not to bad and Fugly is a stud. Tom that trade will bite the Hawks in the arse it appears for years.

I was just about to post that we were loosing site of the really important event for the day.
America v. America jr. :r. In a grudge match of last years finals where the US took gold (twists knife). I will say Canada has looked amazing at times this year and while the US is undefeated some were squeakers. I expect the Canadians to play insane from the drop. A second loss to the US would be a friggin national tragedy.

Hawks certainly did not want to trade Big Buff, the salary cap just left them little choice. I am happier than a hog in chit to see him do so well there. Hawks just have to hope Morin lives up to his potential, so at least they get some benefit.

Canada takes a 4-1 victory. Pretty impressive win from the Canucks, team USA really didn't look like they were in the game other then Jack Campbell. It could have very easily been 7 or 8 to 1.

It was cool watching two IceHogs (Morin and Leddy) and one soon to be IceHog (Olsen) in a game of that magnitude. Should be could to chat with them about the whole experience.

Also Tom I got to go to a Hawks practice last week to interview some former hogs for a piece we are putting together for theahl.com. Got into the dressing room after practice while all the other media had to wait outside, it was a pretty cool experience.
