Re: Official MMA Thread
weak ufc overall. Kampmann-daley was good, crocop-dos santos sucked, and belfort-franklin was even dissapointing, don't evne know what knocked out rich, but didnt like seeing him take a big shot to the back of the head that no one even mentioned, overall, glad i didn't pay :)

How did the last 2 fights suck? Anytime a fight finishes its a good fight. Cro cop got busted up and franklin got dominated. Franklin's last fight sucked and was a bad decision.

Re: Official MMA Thread
Oh...My....
Rampage Retires http://mmamania.com/2009/09/22/quint...hanging-it-up/ "Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson drops a power bomb via his personal Web site: “The UFC has done a lot for me but I think I have done more for them … this movie role came about that I have been trying to get for over a year & as soon as I found out I was close to getting it, I called Dana right away & asked to push the Memphis fight back just a month or so. I told him what this movie role meant to me. I told him that I used to bond with my father watching the tv show as a kid when my parents where still married & it represents the memories I had with my father when we lived together. My dad became an alcohalic & addicted to drugs & we grew apart. But after my dad got his life back together, I was so proud of my dad & I told him I would always take care of him in the future & make him proud of me. My dad & I are still very big fans of the show & I am basically doing this for the childhood memories I had spending time in front of the tv with my dad. Dana went on the internet & mocked me because of that & I still did nothing. Dana & I finally talked & we made up & then after that he went back on the internet & said some bullshit & he was talking bad about the movie when information is not even supposed to be released & talking about payments which is not even true could really hurt my future acting career, which could very well last longer than my fighting career. I’m not like Randy Couture. My body has been getting so many different injuries that I wont be able to fight until my forties & neither do I want to fight that long. So I feel like my second career could be in jeopardy.. so I’m done fighting. I’ve been getting negative reviews from the dumb ass fans that don’t pay my bills or put my kids though college. So I’m hanging it up. I’m gonna miss all my loyal fans but hopefully they’ll follow me to my new career & I will gain more loyal fans along the way. & all you hater fans out there can kiss my big black hairy ass! & anybody that don’t like what I just said can come try to kick my ass! I still feel the UFC is a great organization and I felt like I was very loyal to them but they didn’t respect my loyalty but I wish the UFC the best. I did a lot of things for them. I wish no bad blood between us but I have kids & a family back in Memphis to provide for & thats all that matters to me!” Wow … speechless. Rampage also adds that company president Dana White promised him a title shot against Lyoto Machida after coaching opposite Rashad Evans on this season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF); however, White flipped the script and booked him against “Sugar” anyway. Is this “bad attitude” just a cry for attention or could Jackson really be serious? Let’s tread lightly until we hear official word from White and/or other UFC executives. Nonetheless, sound off, Maniacs. Let’s hear your take." I sure hope Rampage and Dana work this out.... |
Re: Official MMA Thread
wow just wow....
First off, after he doesn't get a second big movie role, 'Page will be back in the octagon, for far less $ than he would have gotten to keep up his career in the UFC. Dana is a *****, I think we all know that. He talks more trash about everybody, but lets face it... the UFC would have folded up long ago if it wasn't for him. I've always liked Quinton, and totally think that he will be back in the cage sooner rather than later, because he is a fighter and not an actor. We all saw where thinking the opposite landed Roger Huerta, same will be said of Rampage. |

I like this fight. It's a rough 1st fight for Kimbo to get and Rampage should have been smarter and known that, but we've never seen any indication that Rampage is "smart". No matter what happens I see Roy & Kimbo getting a chance to fight in the UFC. I however will be pulling the Kimbo. |
Re: Official MMA Thread
Kimbo fight was pretty damn boring which means it went the way I expected it to. I think Rampage's coaching really helped. "Get up. Get up Kimbo. Don't let him do that."

Re: Official MMA Thread
Kimbo should do nothing but work on ground escapes and submissions with the rest of his time on the show. If he could do anything other than lay there like a flipped over turtle he would be a good fighter. Look at Dan Henderson, he's not that great on the ground either but knows enough to be able to get back to his feet.
|
Re: Official MMA Thread
funniest part is that roy nelson thinks he did something. He just layed on kimbo with his fat belly
|
Re: Official MMA Thread
Best quote from Rampage was something to the effect of 'None of us could get that fat ass off us either.' He's probably right. Also like Dana's quote about Nelson, "He was throwing punches like my daughter throws when we play fight." Looked like Kimbo is vastly improved, but he has to stay up and bang and avoid takedowns. It would be kind of nice to see if the project of Kimbo can turn into a decent fighter, he has come a long way already from being a hack who was proclaimed the 'Tiger Woods' of MMA when he was on EliteXXL or whatever. :2

I have not seen a whole lot of Roy Nelson fights but I did read his resume and he is a Renzo Gracie Blackbelt in BJJ. So he is more than some fat guy laying on people. I wouldn't be suprised if he wins TUF 10. That fat guy has better conditioning than any of the other fighters that have fought too.

DREAM 11 Oct 6th at 3 am. Shinya Aoki and Hansen fight for the lightweight title, the 2nd round of the Super Hulk and final round of the featherweight tournament as well, should be good. Joe Warren from Team Quest and also trained by Faber for his last fight is the favorite for the feather weight tournament. Wish I could stay up for it but gotta work tomorrow morning. It should replay on HD net Fri at 1000 pm and Sat at 400 pm.

my bad, it starts at 700am, its going to be eggs and DREAM for breakfast for me.

Its intermission for DREAM 11 and I gotta say every fight has been exciting. The Takaya vs Tokoro fight was one of the best fights Ive seen this year. Its on Justintv if your interested.

Re: Official MMA Thread
I highly recommend watching DREAM 11 it was the best mma show I"ve seen this year. I wont say any spoilers incase you guys watch it Friday. They annouced Eddie Alvarez will be fighting the DEEP lightweight champion at DREAM 12 and Overeem will fight as well. Also Aoki was very vocal in calling out UFC in their claims to have the best fighters and said he could beat any of the UFC lightweights. On another note I have been nastradamus at picking mma fights. I went 4 for 4 today and picked the feather weight tournament winner at 3-1 odds. If I would haved picked all the fights I would have won them all.

Re: Official MMA Thread
With all regards to Kimbo, I am not one that is going to hate on him. He's down at ATT getting his ass handed to him and apparently he is sticking with it. If the guy is trying to better himself and really put in the work, then great. Many people who train would be hard pressed to get out of Roy's crucifix.
If Jackson wasn't such an idiot he would have known to match up Kimbo early because common sense, logic, or any other word to describe the use of the brain and thought would tell you that Evans would imidiately match Roy & Kimbo. |

Gegard Mousasi vs Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou non-title fight booked for Nov. 7 Strikeforce event!
Mixed martial arts fans who were disappointed that Gegard Mousasi and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou weren’t meeting in DREAM’s “Super Hulk Tournament,” fear not. “The Dreamcatcher” and “The African Assassin” will instead throw hands at the Nov. 7 “Fedor vs. Rogers” Strikeforce event on CBS. Unfortunately for the Cameroonian, it won’t be for the Armenian’s light heavyweight title. MMAmania.com has been able to confirm a Sherdog.com report that upon approval by the Illinois State Athletic Commission, Mousasi vs. Sokoudjou will complete the televised portion of the Strikeforce/CBS event, set to air on network television from the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The two were paired up for a showdown at DREAM 11 as part of the “Super Hulk” semifinals on Oct. 6, until a shoulder injury prevented Mousasi from competing. He was quickly replaced by the brittle but reliable Bob “The Beast” Sapp, who was unceremoniously destroyed by Sokoudjou in the first round of their contest. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Forrest Griffin vs Tito Ortiz At UFC 106 CONFIRMED The UFC has located a replacement to take on Tito Ortiz at UFC 106, and it appears that it will be a former foe. President Dana White has confirmed “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” will once again be making his Octagon return against “The Ultimate Fighter 1″ winner Forrest Griffin. |
Re: Official MMA Thread
I just got done watching WEC 43 and I enjoyed the last few fights. The Cerrone / Henderson fight had some crazy submission attempts by Cerrone and I thought he won the standup as well, he was putting henderson on his butt with leg kicks. But with 15 seconds left I lost connection to the fight as Cerrone was bending henderson's arm backwards. So I check Wiki to see the outcome and it says Henderson won by decision and under method its says robbery. lol. So what is this you win fights in WEC by getting dominated in the standup and escaping sub attempts in a title match. What a joke! In the Jansen fight the ref kept standing up the fight if nothing happened in a few seconds only for another takedown to happen. Isnt ground fight apart of MMA in WEC. I can see why Filho didn't like it there.
|
Re: Official MMA Thread
It was a good event! I thought it was going to be a toss-up as to who would win but I was leaning toward Cerrone. I thought the first round was Cerrone's. Henderson winning the 2nd and 3rd but losing the 4th and 5th. Interesting decision for sure. I think Henderson's arms are made of rubber the way they were twisted around so much. lol And that ref was a defiantly hasty in his decision to stand them those guys up like he did.

Re: Official MMA Thread
Been a little lazy about posting MMA news lately but here ya go: (long post)
Sengoku 11 Sengoku middleweight champ Jorge Santiago will face Mamed Khalidov and Kevin Randleman will take on Stanislav Nedkov at Sengoku 11 on Nov. 7 in Tokyo, World Victory Road announced today. Santiago (21-7), who last fought in January when he captured the Sengoku title over Kazuo Misaki, has been on a tear the past two years after leaving the UFC late 2006 on two knockout losses. Since, the American Top Team fighter has won Strikeforce and Sengoku tournaments and would have looked to extend his win streak to ten in August against Vitor Belfort until the cancellation of the Affliction "Trilogy" event. Khalidov (19-3-1), who won 16 straight bouts with the exception of a draw, is a striker with an exciting style that was on display to an American audience when he stopped Jason Guida at a ShoXC event one year ago. In May, the Polish fighter followed up the Showtime-televised win with a first-round knockout over PRIDE Bushido veteran Daniel Acacio at a KSW event in Poland. The Sengoku title will not be on the line, but Khalidov says he hopes to challenge for the title with a win over Santiago. In a light heavyweight bout, Randleman (17-13), coming off a decision loss to Mike Whitehead in June at Strikeforce, faces Nedkov (7-0), an undefeated fighter out of Bulgaria who won his Sengoku debut in May by stopping UFC veteran Travis Wiuff. Sengoku 11 Fight Card: - Michihiro Omigawa vs. Hatsu Hioki - Yuji Hoshino vs. Marlon Sandro - Shigeki Osawa vs. Ronnie Ushiwaka - Eiji Mitsuoka vs. Kazunori Yokota - Satoru Kitaoka vs. Jorge Masvidal - "Big" Jim York vs. Dave Herman - Jorge Santiago vs. Mamed Khalidov - Kevin Randleman vs. Stanislav Nedkov ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spider camp: Anderson Silva will be able to fight at UFC 108 “Anderson pulled out some pieces of bones damaged because of the use of his elbows along the years. It’s a simple procedure and he will start training in a month. The surgery took place two and a half weeks ago so he will face Vitor Belfort. Everyone wants this fight, I want this fight. I just think it would be at 88kg whereas Vitor just returned to the event. Be calm people, Spider will throw his web again.” Anderson Silva’s coach, Josuel Distak, is confident that his star pupil will be healthy enough to throw hands with Vitor Belfort at UFC 108, which is scheduled for Jan. 2, 2010. “The Spider” underwent a minor surgical procedure to remove bone fragments that had been giving his elbow trouble after many years of fighting. Like team mate Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, the recovery time is very quick and “The Phenom” should have his chance to do what no man in the UFC has done before him: Defeat Anderson Silva. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Henderson, UFC fail to come to terms Dan Henderson’s career with the Ultimate Fighting Championship has ground to a close in a contract stalemate, and the former two-division PRIDE champion appears on the verge of signing a deal with the rival Strikeforce promotion. Henderson, 39, devastatingly knocked out Michael Bisping in the second round of their heavily hyped fight on July 11 at UFC 100 in Las Vegas, in the final fight of his contract. The two-time former U.S. Olympic wrestler had hoped to use that victory as a springboard to a middleweight title match against Anderson Silva. But Silva and his manager, Ed Soares, weren’t keen on fighting Henderson again and didn’t think he’d done enough to warrant a rematch. Silva submitted Henderson in the second round of their title fight at UFC 82 on March 1, 2008. Since then, Henderson defeated Rousimar Palhares, won a split decision over Rich Franklin and knocked out Bisping. UFC president Dana White went back-and-forth on whether he’d make Silva-Henderson II, but said at UFC 103 in Dallas that he would give the next shot at Silva to Vitor Belfort, after Belfort scored a first-round knockout of former middleweight champion Rich Franklin. Henderson could not be reached for comment Friday, but White confirmed he was unable to come to terms with Henderson. White did not immediately confirm whether the UFC retains the right to match contract offers under the terms of Henderson’s previous deal. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker did not return phone calls. White, though, said he wanted to re-sign Henderson but couldn’t agree on the money in a new deal. “We have a good relationship with Henderson, and there are no hard feelings,” White said. “He had a figure he believed he was worth, and we had our own figure, and we weren’t able to get together.” White said he was disappointed to lose Henderson, but said he was confident the UFC would be able to recover. “We always find a way,” White said. UFC's loss will be Strickforce's gain, imo. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Brett Rogers on Fedor "I've been working hard on my wrestling and ground skills so even if it does end up on the ground, I'll just scramble to my feet and continue to pick him apart" "The main difference between me and him is that he will come out looking for a quick submission where as I'm going to be looking to knock his head into the 8th row. Don't get me wrong I respect him as a fighter, but he'll respect me even more when I lay it on him and knock him out." "He can't afford to get sloppy with me like he did in the Arlovski fight, if he comes in looking like that again it's going to be a short night for him, I don't play around when I'm in there" "He might be 30-1 but half those wins weren't even under MMA rules, if you only count his MMA fights our records would look about the same." :r From what I understand and have read about Brett Rogers, he hasn't seen but one Fedor fight. :r ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cro Cop thought about "hanging himself" after last UFC loss The Great Cro Cop did not feel so great after getting knocked out in Dallas and thought about 'hanging himself" to end it all in a Dallas Hotel. Here are his comments, very revealing. Wish Fedor would read them. “I was very, very disturbed after the loss to Dos Santos. I was in such a state that I wished to hang myself in my hotel room so I would be gone. Three losses in my last seven fights is nothing but a disaster to me. That’s a terrible score and I’m not happy about it. I already know some things that I did wrong both in the fight and in the preparation for the fight, but there are many questions that remain to be answered. I am seriously thinking about hiring a psychiatrist to help me out. I have already made some calls about it … I will make some changes in my training, because I wish to fight twice more in the UFC. I am a fighter, and I will find the motivation and strength I need … If someone offered me millions of dollars to quit my career right now I would not accept it. [Fighting] is my life and I don’t know any other way to live.” Wow! I know it has to be very hard but athletes have to realize that as they age, they can't stay on top forever. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bernard Hopkins spoke to BoxingScene.com. The former champ said he would feel “suspect” attending an MMA event and compared the sport to ****ography. “I’m not wrestling a guy with panties on and his nuts in my face,” Hopkins said. Just another boxer that resents MMA becoming more popular than boxing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UFC President Dana white hinted at the possibility of the UFC shrinking the Octagon, in a Q&A with Dave Doyle of YahooSports. Dave Doyle: “Would the WEC fighters lose something if you moved them from the smaller WEC cage to the bigger UFC Octagon?” Dana White: “Actually, we’ve been talking about making the Octagon smaller. We’re considering making it smaller. [UFC matchmaker] Joe Silva wants it. I think he wants to turn the thing into a [expletive] bathtub. Have them fight in a little tollbooth.” ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal signs Strikeforce deal Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal has signed a multi-fight deal with Strikeforce and could make his promotional debut as early as December, according to a source with knowledge of the negotiations. Great for SF! King Mo rawks! |

Re: Official MMA Thread
UFC owners considering selling stake of company
Dana White has appeared on Bloomburg T.V and stated that part of the UFC is potentially up for sale to the right buyer. Apparently the Fertitta brothers, who each have a share of about 40% of the company are considering letting between 10 and 15% of the company be sold. White himself owns a 10% share, and acts as the UFC president, although the Fertittas are the real controllers of the company. White says in the interview that the partner would essentially be a silent investor, and wouldn't have much of a say in the actual running of the company itself. Before anyone out there gets any ideas about getting a piece of the UFC for themselves they will probably need a couple of hundred million dollars spare that they don't need. What should be made of this news isn't that clear in itself. The Fetittas are facing large losses with their failing casino empire, although the UFC alone is making hundreds of millions per year, so they probably aren't hurting for cash just yet. They famously bought the UFC for a couple of million dollars only a few years ago, and might just be getting a cash injection to help grow the brand more quickly. Given that they might not have much income coming in at the moment except from the UFC itself, a large injection of capital might be what they need to take the brand into even more homes and countries. |

DREAM 12 Update! Sakuraba Vs. Galesic
http://nightmareofbattle.wordpress.com/ Three and one modified fights have been added to the white cage which will be set up just six days from now. Zelg “Benkei” Galesic has got a change in opponent as he will now face Kazushi Sakuraba instead of Melvin Manhoef, who is out due to injury. Katsuyori Shibata returns to take on fellow pro-wrestler Tokimitsu Ishizawa (Kendo Kashin) who is looking to get his second ever MMA victory. In a Welterweight fight, champion Marius Zaromskis will face Korean Myeon Ho Bae in what looks to be a non-title affair. And finally, in a Featherweight fight, ZST Bantamweight champion Keisuke Fujiwara will take on Tomoya Miyashita. Update: It looks like Overeem’s fight will be the last one, they’re currently in the final stages of securing an opponent. Daisuke Nakamura’s participation will most likely not happen again. Update #2: I like some of the added fights but some fans in Japan (people who have already bought tickets, ppv, etc.) aren’t too happy with them advertising fighters on their posters/videos, and not delivering. Especially this event and DREAM.11 there have been a lot of this going on. Also, Sanae Kikuta recently said in an interview that he wants to fight Kiyoshi Tamura on NYE. Tamura isn’t on this card, Nakamura will most likely not be on it. Is something going on between Tamura’s camp and FEG? Will Kikuta fight on Dynamite!! this NYE? Diaz's camp announced the bout via its official Web site, GracieFighter.com, and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has confirmed Maynard will likely earn a future title shot if victorious at the show. Although not officially announced, UFC Fight Night 20 takes place Jan. 11 in Fairfax, Va. As MMAjunkie.com recently reported, the event is likely to take place at the 11,000-seat Patriot Center on the campus of George Mason University. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rolles Gracie (3-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC), part of MMA's legendary Gracie clan, has signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC and is expected to meet fellow heavyweight Mostapha Al-Turk (6-5 MMA, 0-2 UFC) at UFC 109 in February. Gracie and his management team announced the signing via Twitter on late Tuesday. Although not officially announced by the organization, UFC 109 is expected to take place Feb. 6 in Las Vegas. Gracie, the son of Rolls Gracie (who's uncle was Helio Gracie), made his pro debut in 2007 with the International Fight League. The second-degree Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt defeated Sam Holloway via submission but wouldn't fight again for nearly two years. Gracie returned with the China-based Art of War promotion this year and moved his record to 3-0 with a pair of additional submission victories over Baga Agaev in May and Peter Graham in September. He now meets Al Turk, who's likely fighting for his life in the UFC. The former Cage Rage fighter lost to Cheick Kongo at UFC 92 in his octagon debut, and six months later, fought late replacement Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic at UFC 99. Aided by an illegal (but accidental) eye poke, Filipovic posted a first-round TKO victory. Al Turk had won six of seven fights (all via first-round stoppage) prior to the back-to-back losses. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bas Rutten, shares a little insight into his life before he became a MMA announcer, fighter, spokesperson and entertainer. The engine was in the back; you could speak to each other if you were past 60 mph. First job: deliver newspapers, then went to cleaning dishes in a kitchen and a farm which was good because you get paid by the amount of work you did. How much did you get paid: I got paid great with the farming because I was such a hard worker. You got by the amount of bushels you had of vegetables like asparagus. So I got paid something like $20 an hour and that was 25 years ago! What did you want to be when you were 10 years old: I wanted to be a cook. Then when I saw Bruce Lee I wanted to a fighter. And I am actually a certified cook in French Cuisine. What was your dream as a child: I wanted to be Spiderman. I was climbing trees a lot. I had a real bad skin disease and asthma as a kid. So, I spent a lot of time in the woods and had the ability to go from treetop to treetop. Are you a dog or cat person?: Dog, I have one right now. But actually I have also had cats, but I have a dog right now. My wife doesn't like cats and it is a real nice dog. A little Bijon poodle. |
Re: Official MMA Thread
Good lineup for DREAM (at least for me anyway). I always look to their cards for good matchups, but they do need to have their cards set in stone before announcing them IMO.
Yeah I think Shogun has a decent chance, I just hope he doesn't do it. I completely loathe him and his brother Ninja. Personally I want to see Machida knock his ass out :2 |
Re: Official MMA Thread
personally I don't think shogun has a chance against Machida, unless Machida is affected by the fans calling him a slow/un-entertaining fighter. He has nothing to prove tho IMO and should stick to his counter striking techniques. Shogun is known to be aggressive and machida is known as a counter striker. I think if Machida is in his zone (which i suspect he will be) shogun is going to get KTFO, which i look forward to seeing, and if anyone wants to bet sticks on it, i'm in :)

Chris Horodecki Signs WEC Deal
Former IFL standout Chris Horodecki has signed a deal to join the WEC, WEC general manager Reed Harris confirmed Thursday. The 22-year-old Polish-born Canadian, who was the lightweight star on the Bas Rutten and Shawn Tompkins-headed Los Angeles Anacondas squad for the now-defunct IFL, will look to make an impact in the WEC's 155-pound division currently led by champions Jamie Varner and Ben Henderson and contenders Donald Cerrone and Ed Ratcliff. Horodecki opened his professional MMA career in 2005, five days past his 18th birthday, and would win four fights for the TKO promotion in Canada before joining the IFL where he would extend his record to 11 consecutive victories. Despite his name-making run in the IFL, he fell short in capturing the promotion's lightweight belt in an upset loss to Ryan Schultz in the finals of the IFL World Grand Prix In December 2007. After the collapse of the IFL, Horodecki signed with Affliction but an injury prevented him from competing in January. Horodecki fought in June at the "Ultimate Chaos" and picked up his first career submission win, a rear-naked choke over King of the Cage veteran William Sriyapai. Horodecki trains closely with former Xtreme Couture trainer Tompkins and one year ago co-founded the Adrenaline Training Center in London, Ontario with Mark Hominick and Sam Stout to carry on the Team Tompkins methods. Horodecki is expected to make his WEC debut in December. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Paulo Filho Out of Dream 12 In another setback for a talented but troubled MMA fighter, former World Extreme Cagefighting middleweight champion Paulo Filho is off Sunday's Dream 12 card. Filho, who a couple of years ago was widely regarded as the No. 2 middleweight in the world, has been removed from the official Dream.12 fight card. Dream has not made any official announcement, but MMArocks.pl is reporting that Filho didn't show up in Japan for his scheduled fight with Dong Sik Yoon, and that Tarec Saffiedine will now fight Dong instead. Filho took almost a year off from MMA in 2008 while he battled drug and personal problems, and when he finally returned to the cage he showed up overweight, out of shape and looking uninterested in fighting in a loss to Chael Sonnen -- the first loss of his MMA career. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yushin Okami vs. Chael Sonnen: The Big UFC 104 Fight You Won't See on TV Saturday's UFC 104 card features two bouts pitting Top 10 fighters against each other. One of them, of course, is the main event, Lyoto Machida vs. Shogun Rua. The other one won't even be televised. Yushin Okami vs. Chael Sonnen is Saturday night's second-best fight, at least if you judge the quality of the fight based on how highly ranked the competitors are. In Bloody Elbow's consensus rankings, Okami is the fourth-best middleweight in the world and Sonnen is 10th. No other fight on the card even features one Top 10 fighter, let alone two Top 10 fighters against each other. And yet the UFC, which is showing seven live fights on Saturday night between pay-per-view and Spike TV, for some reason isn't showing Okami vs. Sonnen. It makes no sense. I've never understood why the UFC doesn't promote Okami, who has won seven of his eight UFC bouts and was the last fighter to beat middleweight champion Anderson Silva, when Silva was disqualified in their 2006 fight for an illegal kick. I also think Sonnen, who's smart and articulate, is an easy fighter to promote. Okami vs. Sonnen should be one of the marquee fights on this card. Instead it's the No. 8 fight on an 11-fight card, and if the fans at home are lucky maybe they'll get to see it on tape delay. That's some consolation, but not enough: UFC fans should be able to see this fight live. http://mma.fanhouse.com/2009/10/23/y...ht-you-wont-s/ |
Re: Official MMA Thread
I was going to mention that earlier NCRADIOMAN but just never got around to it. I think Okami was even the #2 ranked middleweight before he injured himself in training.

Re: Official MMA Thread
I wouldn't be surprised if Machida wins.
