More, in bad lighting. I think these 3 were shot at 12,800 ISO

Re: Photography Thread
I went to NOLA this weekend and wandered the quarter at night as usual. NOT my best trip, I had a guest with me and I went the speed they wanted to go, bypassed hundreds of things I wanted to shoot, and due to LSU starting at 2:30, left WAY before I usually do at 8:30. But NONE of that will hold me back from shooting at least one great one.....and now I give you that great shot, lol...

That lil cat cleaned up good, Justin.
Here is another one of those shots where I park the car, get my feet under me, turn on the camera, look up and whammo, I see THIS before me.... http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3833/1...e2708783_c.jpg Lonely Street by Brad-(OLS), on Flickr |

Awesome! I looked at the EXIF info, and you were shooting ISO 5000? How clear are the photos with the D700 without Photoshop with this camera? |
Re: Photography Thread
Ron, I never mess with noise unless it is obvious, because it really takes so much away from the photo.
It is very likely that this photo is basically SOOC with only the signature added. I can't swear to that, but this is all the superior imaging of the D700. That is why I want another one. The only reason I have not worked hard to get another one so far is that I kind of went SO FAR down the road of owning all those other cameras, that if I got another D700, that is all I would take anywhere. I am not a fool for buying D90s and D200s, but I would be a fool if I bought them and did not use them. So I wait for the prices to go down, and when they do I will pick up another one or two. But these things just shoot and shoot in the dark. And of course, 5000 is high ISO, but not even close to half of what it WILL DO. But I don't like to push it at all unless I just have to. It was a real juggling act to balance ISO, F/stop and shutter speed to keep everything right. There is noise in the photo, it is just subtle. And as you can see, this streetlamp is bathing the area with usable light. What is remarkable to me is not the ISO/noise, but the LENS, 24mm at 2.8, is WIDE OPEN, and is doing a pretty decent job of being sharp. Way more depth of field than I thought I could get wide open, I guess because it is a true wide angle lens on this full frame camera. |
Re: Photography Thread
Ron, the d700 is an fx camera. Typically a full frame will exhibit sofnificantly less noise at a given iso compared to a crop sensor camera of the same time period. Just go back and look at my Canond 6d images at 12,800 iso

Re: Photography Thread
Guess I need to save my money then because I like what I see with full frame equipment!

Re: Photography Thread
I hate to say it, Ron, but according to Justin, I would have two D700s now, just what I REALLY WANT, if I had not
bought all those crappy OLD Nikons. He was right then and he is right now. But I like my D90, I just can't use if for everything I want to use it for. TRUTH be told, I could have gotten the same shot with a D90 in that spot. No more noise than what you see there. But that IS about the limit. Reasonable ISO, plenty of practice to find out JUST HOW SLOW a shutter speed you can hand hold, and PERFECT exposure. Low or high exposure tends to magnify amp noise. |
