With a 2-ball count, he's looking for something down in the zone he can put good wood on and slap into the gap.

And maybe we can get back to baseball again soon too. :D

9th inning comeback for the Tigers, they really needed it.

Re: 2014 MLB Thread

9th inning rally by Indians doesn't get past a threat, and Yanks take another pitcher's duel, 10-6.

Cleveland uses 7 pitchers, but NY only 6.

Re: 2014 MLB Thread

Scherzer goes 8 innings on 4 hit, 1 run ball.

Nathan comes in for the 9th and blows it.

Looks like the Tigers need complete games from their starters to win. The bullpen is a joke.

Better load up in the 10th, as goodness only knows how chitty the next reliever will pitch.

Re: 2014 MLB Thread

Indians shut out Yankees 3-0, and allow only 5 hits over 9 innings. But that's not the story. One of those hits was a single by Derek Jeter in the 6th, which put him ahead of Honus Wagner all-time at 3431, and sole possession of 6th place in hit leaders.

Jeets would need to get red-hot over the next 6 weeks to challenge Tris Speaker (3515) for #5 all-time, and I don't expect that to happen. But I do expect he'll keep swinging.

I ruled the hit an error, so Jeter is still tied with Honus in my world. :)

Sure hope Jeter can pass Wagner today. :noon:

I expect Jeter will get a few more hits before he's done. I also suspect Honus will not. :D

Re: 2014 MLB Thread

But will Jeter's baseball card ever be more valuable than Honus'? I'll bet that gets Homus laid all the time. :)

The famous Gretzky T206 card last sold for $2.8 million. How many times could Jeter buy it? :r

Many times, with a reacharound and a gift basket with every purchase. :lr

Tigers slip out of first and lose Verlander in the same game. I heard from an unofficial source he had been feeling shoulder pain for some time but just now admitted it to trainers.

Sanchez, Verlander, Soria down.

We got trouble, right here in Detroit City, with a capital T, and that rhymes with P, and that stands for pitching.

Valverde is available, Tom.
Maybe he can start?
Time to break out your Papa Grande jersey! :D

David Phelps, Michael Pineda, Masahiro Tanaka, CC Sabathia, Ivan Nova.

My heart bleeds for Detroit.

Not to mention Miggy has something going on too. No power as of late and average slipping. Rumors are he may be injured. However, he's been running and fielding well. Not sure what the truth is there.

Mr. Big Potato Head jersey on the ready, Dom.

I know, Thomas, the Yankees are always better/worse off/more persecuted/blah blah blah than any other team. Oh, the weight of that cross. :lr
