Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
We lose yet another...to the Reds, 6-1. :bh :bh

Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
Stick a fork in em'.
Why the hell did the umps make Dickey take off the simple bracelet his kids gave him before his mountain hike? Enforcing the rules on something like that is pretty lame. They will now need to make all pitchers remove their necklaces, too. |
Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
Right now our only fight is to stay out of the cellar...don't know how much longer we can last. :bh :bh

Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
I think somebody greased the top step......
|
Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
what a disappointing baseball year!...Phillies and Red Sox both sh!t the bed, and Mets were winning...only salvation now is for Mets to finish behind the Phils...what say ye, o' Met faithful....enough gas to finish ahead of Philly?
|
Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
I think we are done Keith...as much as it pains me.
|
Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
Mets are in a downward spiral.....whereas Phils just keep spinning!....all my good post-season Mets jokes gonna hafta wait til next season!
|
Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
Mets hold on to beat the Reds tonight 8-4. Of course the bullpen comes in and gives up 3 runs in the bottom of the ninth. :bh :bh
|
Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
I really don't know why they took Harvey out with two outs in the eighth inning. Werthen really should have let him be.
|
Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
Nats continue to OWN the Mets this year as we lose another 6-4. Santana looked good the first three innings...after that he looked like stir fried sh*t. Good news is that Philly lost too. I truly believe he is done as a starter...might be time to put him in the bullpen as a lefty specialist. His fastball lost 4-5 MPH from inning to inning last night. We all know that won't happen because of the money we are paying him.
Oh, on that same note of money being paid...sure glad we are getting our value out of Bay...hitting .155 with 6 HR and 12 RBI...not bad for $ 16.5 million a year (4 year $ 66 million contract) for a part time player huh? :bh :bh :bh |

First, this is the team I expected all year. NY sports talk radio always gets on the Yankees for living and dying by the home run. Well the Mets live and die by the 2 out hit. At some point, those two out hits aren't going to come, and instead of winning 1 and 2 run games, you lose them. There really isn't much talent position player wise on this squad. Wright is the only legit threat in the lineup, with Davis, if he keeps it up the only other potential danger for opposing pitchers. Sure I think Tejada, and Murphy can be good players on a good team, but who actually says "Oh crap, Daniel Murphy is up?" nobody. Our catching situation is a joke, as we have had 3 guys up all season who are borderline major leaguers at best, and adding Shoppach isn't much of an upgrade. We have 0 legit starting outfields, and that was ok in 2000 because our infield was Ventura, Fonzie, Piazza and Olerud, but not with this infield. Nieuwenhuis showed flashes in the early part of the year, and maybe he can be a decent player, but we need two solid MLB quality outfielders in the corners. The starting pitching, has a bit of a better feel too it than any other part of this team. Dickey has been arguably the best pitcher in the NL. We have seen real good signs from Harvey. Niese has been up and down, but I still think he is a #3 starter in this league. And of course we have Zach Wheeler one step away from joining the big club. Johan... he gave us our first no-no, but he should be shut down for the season. He just doesn't have it right now. Maybe it was the 130 pitch game on June 1st, or maybe its a result of his surgery. The bullpen. A total cluster fcuk. Omar used to be able to piece together decent bullpens. Sandy has utterly failed at this. If he continues to fail, it won't matter much whats going to happen with the rest of the team. On the horizons, we have 2 very solid young pitchers who could be stars in this league in Harvey and Wheeler. Most likely we lock up Dickey and Wright to deals in the off season. But the biggest issue is we still have Johan and Bay on the books for 40 million next year. Odds are we won't be players in free agency, and the team you see now is most likely going to be the team you see next season. They may add a few guys in the bullpen, and sign an outfielder to a one year deal, but won't be players in free agency until at least 2014. Honestly, I'm ok with this approach. I expected nothing from this team. I knew that there wasn't an abundance of talent. I've been glad to see Ike turn it around and start to hit. Tejada hasn't made me forget Reyes, but he has played really well and will be a good player on this team. There are some good pieces coming up and already playing on the big league rosters, and two years ago, all we heard was how awful the Met's farm system was. So here you have it; the team you see now, is pretty much what you will see next season. You will get to see Wheeler, maybe a slight upgrade at catcher, and a patch in outfielder, but for the most part this is your 2013 NY Mets. Get ready for another rough season, but at the very least the outlook is better for the future than we could have hoped for even 2 years ago. |
Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
Mets FINALLY take one from the Nats tonight 2-0...on only three hits. Niese looked really good and the bullpen didn't blow it. :D

Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
Seems the September 2012 issue of Beckett Baseball liked the year Wright & Dickey were having. :tu :tu

Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
Nats continue to OWN us as we lose 5-2 today. I don't think this Heffner kid is cut out to be a starter. He gives up too many runs EARLY. Every outing this year, he has given up runs in the first two innings. Alderson better get his head in it this winter and get us a damn pitching staff...starters and a bullpen.

Bullpen loses their 23rd game last night to the Rockies, 3-1. Now we're tied with Philly. :bh :bh :bh

Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
The basement is clearly within reach.

Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
Another loss to the Rockies last night...6-2. But hey, at least Philly lost too. Only 1/2 a game away from the cellar.

Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
Maybe the Mets will win one in honor of your birthday tonight, Mac!

Santana to the 15 day DL and more than likely done for the season with back pains...imagine that. :D
|
Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
So much for a b-day win from my Mets as the bullpen melts down again in a 5-2 loss to the Rockies. Harvey pitched 6 string innings...only for Ramirez to BLOW UP in his 2/3 innings. :bh :bh Good news is that Philly and Florida both lost...still not in the cellar. :D

Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
In case you forgot, the Mets lost on your birthday last year, too! :D

Thanks for the reminder Dom. :bh :bh

Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
Of course we get beat 1-0. McHugh looked damn good today...7 innings of two hit ball with 9 strikeouts...only to have the pullpen come in and...you guessed it...BLOW the game. :bh :bh And Philly was idle today...putting us in 4th place.

Half game to tie Miami with the basement!

Mets send McHugh down to AAA and reinstate Hefner from the paternity list...WTF??? Hefner has been lit up in every outing this year, McHugh pitched 7 innings of 2 hit, 9 strikout ball. It's not like we are in the race any longer. Let the young kids get acclimated to The Show. :bh :bh

Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
Or...save the arm for next season and maybe clean up the rotation then.
|
Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
Well, another loss. 3-1. At least it wasn't the bullpen's fault this time. One highlight was that Wright hit hr #200.

As I've said earlier in the year, smoke and mirrors. People get on the Yankees for only winning with the long ball, but when you live and die by the 2 out hit, you are just as much, if not more vulnerable. Francesca's rant the other day was right on point. This is the team I expected all season, so the first half was a shock, and a pleasant surprise, but this team played well over their heads. There are maybe 3 legit MLB level players in the everyday lineup, and that is it, and its not as if there is much more in the farm system. All of the top prospects are pitchers. I'm not really sure what to expect next season and beyond, I just don't see any hope. |
Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
Done watching for the season. I'll check boxscores, but refuse to watch any more.

Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter
Mets FINALLY win one today...beat the Astros 3-1. Dickey picks up his 16th win of the season. And it keeps us out of the cellar, for at least another day. :D

Every few year's they have a new rival. When I was a kid, it was the Cards! Any Met fans remember them? Then it was the Braves. Then it was the Braves and Phills. Now it's the Phills. We are most likely a year or two away from Washington being their #1 rival. I guess when you constantly get your face kicked in by all the other kids in the school, it's hard to decide which one you hate the most! :D :sl |
