Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Picked up a bottle of Maker's 46 yesterday while at Total Wine (saving that for EPIC III)...
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...e2/ebay030.jpg and also a bottle of Paddleford Creek Bourbon. Anybody experienced with this Paddleford Creek? |

We have a ton of Makers 46 here. I have not tried it yet - but I feel like it is just a marketing scheme to "age" bourbon faster. Oak staves in oak barrels... I suppose I'm a traditionalist. Never been a fan of Makers or Woodford. Overpriced and overrated IMO. Much better bourbon for the price. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I'm drinking Weller barrel proof, 67.4% pure alcohol goodness. 134.8 proof it's a beast!

I got all of them out of state. The Experimentals are a private experimental from Jay Erisman at The Pary Source. I also had him ship me the Four Roses cause I couldn't find it local either.
I'm on a waiting list for a store in Illinois for the 2010 Buffalo Trace Experiments. Fingers crossed.... |

Went softly this weekend, and put a hurtin' on my bottle of Gentleman Jack.
I have to admit, it's a nice taste and I'm not against a mixer when you go to JD's lines. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Not sure how many watchers of this thread went to the Shack Herf and got a taste of that
OLD whiskey that some nice man gave to DaveK. BUT, as it was the finest spirit I ever put in me mouth, I was wondering, is there anything out there that comes anywhere CLOSE to that stuff? I know it would have to have decades in a barrel to even come close, since I think that was the allure of the mysterious bottles Dave had and SHARED (glug). But I have been hell bent to find something like that in a store so I can have a shot now and again. And to clarify, my shot took me 45 mins to drink at the shack. A little went a LONG way. It literally exploded with flavor on the palate, like a liquid pop-rock under concentrate. It was chewable. And I want to do it again. |

sub-sub forum. It's all slopes of one kind or another. But I am not sure I want to pay 150-350 a bottle for that taste. I am gonna try some of these supposed 16 year old bourbons, since I read here and there that too much barrel age is not all that good for bourbon. Lemme tell you, it sure did that label-less bottle good. :D We will have to see if I get all turned around or not. Certainly keep you posted, lol. As it's friday, I am gonna make a stop by Buster's on the way home and pick either a Hirsch, or a pappy or just a plain ol Woodford's and get home and relax. Already got the 4 Roses, so you'd think I could just drink that. But NOOooo. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I'm currently looking for a new bourbon to try... something off the beaten path so to speak any suggestions, favorites you enjoy?
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Well, Justin, I am an oddball, as you know. I stock WIld Turkey, but not many love that too much.
When it comes down to grabbing a bottle of show-stopping sippin whiskey, you would have a hard time topping Woodford's Reserve. 4 Roses Single Barrel is fine. Eagle Rare is no slouch. I guess none are off the beaten path, as you characterize it. But maybe that's right about what you wanted. If not, reading most of this thread is a great activity. |

I guess what I'm looking for is something not found normally in my area. Around here you are pretty well limited to Jack, Jim, Evan, Turkey... Woodford would be top of the shelf in most of my stores. Anything more I'll have to get online or wait til my next kinfolk visit in Tenn where bourbon flows out-o-the rocks. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Yep, folks love that basil hayden's. As for me drinking Old Crow would freak me out
with old time memories. I thought that stuff was for bootleggers and souses. But it wouldn't be the biggest surprise for me this week. That makes it tough, Justin. If Woodford is top shelf (and it generally is) then most of the other ones I mentioned would also be prohibitive if even available. I believe the Flake has better reccos for you in that case. I bet you find Old Forrester and maybe even that Old Crow, lol. Or next time you come up Memphis Way, stop in at Buster's. You will go all glassy-eyed in that joint. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I am on an Eagle Rare kick lately...great stuff! Buffalo Trace is also very good.
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Pulled a few hundred clams out of the vault and I am gonna hit Buster's on the way
home without trying to do anything based on whta I know, and focus entirely on what I read here today. We'll see where that gets me, lol. i am really looking HARD at the Stagg, that high proof stuff. I think I will also pick up some Rittenhouse Rye and maybe some Van Winkle 15 YO. I think I might escape with some change. |

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Does anyone know when the BTAC is being released this year? We got very little of it here in Ga last year and I'm on the hunt for Stagg and Eagle Rare.
