Can't we all just get along???

http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...pscfe8b582.jpg

These two were literally at it the whole time i was around. Every activity had to be vetted first through this
pecking order battle...swimming, getting OUT of the water, walking over to the tree tangle. Always a very
small fight over who's idea it was or who went first. Just enough camera shake here at the long end of a 210
to make it less than crisp, but this was the one that best captured the agitation and also had the best relative
position. I have sharper ones, but not ones I like more. When they got out, it came to a head and the one
who was out of the pool splashed the crap out of his sibling and that one was a great shot, but its all water drops.

This is why I should never have gotten the D700, which comes in tomorrow.
There is no way of knowing the shutter count at this point, and to llook at
this shot off of the D90, I am really wondering why I even went to the trouble
and expense of ORDERING a D700. This is my current best camera with about
my worst lens. But now I am torn....is it crap after all?
It is a Nikkor 70-300 G lens which is super slow, and all plastic (and glass)
but on the D90, it suddenly looks a lot less crappy. Once I took the D90 to
New Orleans for the first time, I finally realized what a super camera it was.
But seeing this shot, which is probably one of the best photos I ever took,
I am starting to think a bit better of that new-fangled G lens. It cost me a
whopping $69 refurbished. Hell, I'd give $69 for a poster print of the damn Lion shot.

Waterfowl are about my favorite photographic subject, so those shots are really great for me.
They are TINY, but I can see the quality dripping off the shots...wonderful color and dynamic range in the
feathers, and of course, great captures of moments in time, especially the feeding Cormorant or Anhinga.
Great work for sure.

I certainly am aware of THAT part of it, but the part that is making me go all wishy-washy
is the damn IQ. I KNOW the D700 has great IQ, and I KNEW the D90 had it too, but even though
I spent on the very bottom end of 'used D700 money', I am looking at that lion shot and thinking,
'damn.....I didn't need to spend even THAT money." If the thing has under 35k shutter actuations,
I will keep it and shut my mouth and just shoot with it. But it IS beat to hell condition-wise, so
I ain't holding my breath. :tu If it is much over 60k, I am just gonna ship it back and count myself lucky
to be dealing with a place that has a generous return policy.

D700 expected shutter life is 150K. I say if it has under 75k keep it My :2

Re: Photography Thread

But that's what they WANT me to do.....50k is my final offer.
Anyway, I'll know tomorrow. An really, for what I paid, even if
it was 80k, all I would really need to do is remember that I do not
have to treat it like its my only camera. I can use it when I have
to have the low light capability and use my very capable stable of
other bodies to take up the slack. I like what I get out of the D200
and the D90 both. Not enough to keep me off the sales sheets, but
you know what I mean, lol.

Re: Photography Thread

While we are on the subject of photography, lol, does anyone know why it seems like Nikon pulled all their
old speedlights and is only selling odd-numbered ones now? Not sure if its a i-TTL issue or what, but all of
the major online retailers now seem to be out of the business of selling SB-200, 400, 600, 800 etc. Well, they
actually still sell a SB-400 for enthusiasts.

Nice shots Justin!

This was shot Monday morning as I was leaving for work. From the end of our driveway looking east. And it's been hammered on in LR :D

Yeah, Justin, I think it is new models versus old models. So to Nikon I say.....

ITS A FU(&ING LIGHT! WHAT KIND OF NEW FEATURES CAN THEY COME OUT WITH?
High resolution LIGHT?
Increased SPEED of LIGHT?
More megapixels??
Bigger HOTSHOE fitting?

Gimme a break.

Re: Photography Thread

Justin I would rag you about your apparent new Canon point and shoot, but I live in a glass house.
So I will not rag you for your CAS.....My NAS went into hyperdrive last night. Ado put up another
D90 yesterday that was priced too low to leave alone....it was not in top condition, but as may be
apparent now to some, I am building a hedge against Nikon after the release of a 36 MP camera.

I have surrounded myself with bodies that are getting near what I consider a reasonable MPixel limit and
that all use the same battery. My embarassing collection of cameras now consists of EIGHT NIKON BODIES
that can all use the same battery. None of them are over 13 MP. It fits my idea of what a reasonable MPixel
limit is, as well as offering me total flexibility with power. While I would tolerate the 24 Mpixels of the D600,
the battery kills it for me. For an indefinite period of time, I can wall off progress and just take photos.
If a D200 or D90 dies, I have a sibling there to donate parts from should there be none available. From
what I hear, Nikon is no longer selling parts to repair dealers. Not sure if that is still true or not, but it
gives me pause. You have to send every repair that needs parts to Nikon. that is not WHY I have
2 D200s and 2 D90s, but its a comfort nonetheless.

OUCH....look what I wrote in this thread 15 months ago.....

"As I told you all before, I am willing to own a DSLR, but I am not willing to own
a lot of lenses. I draw my mania line right there."

Wow.....what complete and utter Bull5hi+.
