Germany makes some good beers, but they are pretty limited in style. The US micros make very good beers with a wider selection than you will find anywhere else in the world. For the most part, the traditional areas still make their traditional beer; German lagers in Germany, English style ales in the UK, etc. The US makes every style out there, including some that have virtually disappeared from their traditional areas, plus our own takes on all of them. The only real exception are the American macro lagers, which are available world wide.

All this German talk had me wanting a good Dopplebock so I just chilled and poured an Ayinger Celebrator and it is fantastic!

I'm sitting in my garage with my wife, enjoying a Chatoe Rogue while smoking an Angel 100 I was bombed a while back. A tasty combo, if I do say so myself. :)

I'm about 20 minutes from having a Deschutes Mirror Pond, and it can't happen too soon. Long day :tu

Is that different from the Raison D'Etre? If its the same, its actually cheaper here than any of the other DFH beers.

Re: What beers are you enjoying?

It is different and way better than the D'etre!

-edit-

It's called a Belgian Strong Dark Ale with 18ABV!

-edit again-

Still thinking of this and I was amazed to see that this was 18ABV. When compared to the Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout with a 13ABV and the alcohol more in your face. This Raison D'Extra is so well balanced it's just crazy. I might have to grab a few more to put away.

I wonder if that's from the beer itself or from aging. Do your bottles have a date on them? I still haven't heard of any later than 2007.

I'll look at the date, where abouts is it located?

Honestly, I can't remember. IIRC it's printed on the bottle itself, not the label, so it shouldn't be too hard to find. I'm thinking it's yellow ink. I have some Palo Santo Marron that the date's unreadable on, though.

I also agree there are great beers in Germany and in the Micro Brews in the US. The difference is is that the American Micro brews offer several different kinds of beer. From the dark porter to a light pilsner. Hell I love them all. I cant drink Bud or Coors anymore unless I absolutely have too.

I started the evening with Bell's Expedition Stout, then I had a nip of bourbon with my cigar but I am finishing with a Sweetwater Happy Ending :)
