Hey guys, here's a heads up -

I just listed my iPhone 4 on my renters insurance for $14 a YEAR! It includes all risk coverage (loss, theft, water damage, breakage, etc) and doesn't have a deductible. Much better than other plans costing A LOT more and have steep deductibles. I'm with Encompass.

Being in the insurance claims business for over 28 years, I honestly would not recommend this.
Your phone is something you can easily lose or damage. Once this happens, you file a claim. Claims can cause your renter's policy to be cancelled if occur within certain time frames of their underwriting guidelines of frequency guidelines or type of loss guidelines.
Next thing you know, you are being dropped and shopping for new insurance.
Use your renter's or homeowner's insurance for what it was intended for and get a policy for your phone elsewhere.

Take it from a wise old man in this business.

You got the old part right! ;)

I didn't even try my homeowners insurance for that reason. I went with Squaretrade because they have the best reviews and reputation. Had a coupon and spent about $85 per phone for 2 years of full coverage ($50 deductible for accidental damage, $0 for warranty type repair -- both with free overnight to and from the repair center).

With all the alleged reception problems and the only "worthy" case to keep the minimalistic look of the Iphone 4 intact requiring a huge logo up the side at the moment, I am currently very content with my Iphone 3 in the Otterbox, but you guys enjoy your new toys.

With all the press about the reception problems and needing to have to hold the phone a certain way, inflated or not, you can be sure Apple is looking at a redesigned model.

:r:r:r

LMAO at the translation. :)

Even with the reported issues and all of the competition from the Droid platforms, I still would prefer an iPhone, and looking forward to getting one. My wife has had hers for a year and a half with minimal complaints (mainly download and upload slow speeds inside places, like inside the Metrodome). I do know people who have had dropped call issues, but they also admitted to having used their phones more for business calls than just personal use.

Can't wait to get the e-mail that says I can come pick up my new phone. :D

I'm sure AT&T ol'timers already know this; but I just found out tonight. If you're on certain plans (e.g., the Family 1400 plan that I'm on), you've got a feature called "A-List," which lets you specify up to 10 numbers (landline or cell) for unlimited talk time. As such, I was able to add folks like my parents, the DrMS's parents, and a few different friends who aren't on AT&T ... and now we'll get unlimited talk time with them. :wo

Just wanted to share as an AT&T newbie.

Yeah ... it's going to save us a TON. Basically, all of the people we talk to regularly who happen to not be on AT&T are now on our A-List. We're going to be rolling over a ridiculous number of minutes. :D

I noticed an app for Sirius radio. I have Sirius on a couple of different receivers and pay something like $10 a month for them. The app based one is $2.99. If I use it though will that be considered "data?" If it is I imagine I could run up quite the bill.

If you're streaming it on the 3G network, it would be "data." If you streamed it on a wifi network, it would not count against your 3G data cap.

Had a nice little surprise today. Hooked up the new iPhone to sync and get a nasty little message saying "iphone not compatible with this OSX version. Needs 10.5.8 to work". Was kind of pissed because it works on every version of windows but Apple is screwing their own people. I can't upgrade to 10.5.8 because it requires and intel processor and I'm running 10.4.11 on the last PPC they made before they switched over to the intel chips. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that it wouldn't be compatible with my computer. Oh well.....was able to activate it with Katie's computer, I just wont' be able to put any music on it until we buy that new desktop we've been eyeing. Usually I am a big defender of Apple but today I was really HOT!

It sure is, as is XM radio and Pandora. Here's a frame of reference for you: I had a customer who used XM radio at his desk to the tune of 40hrs a week. Comes out to about 7-8GB of data a month. For those with unlimited, no sweat. For those without, as was said earlier, go with WiFi. Actually a surprising number of apps use data. The iPhone is a data HOG.

my wife's out of town for a few days. we're doing some redecorating, which (of course) I've been put in charge of implementing; but I ran into some issues with the proposed changes (i.e., they weren't possible). knowing that a simple explanation wouldn't do, I was able to *show* her using FaceTime. very cool. :tu it was also neat, of course, to be able to talk to her "face-to-face" from a thousand miles away.

I was pretty sure that 10.5 (Leopard) does work with PPC processors, it's 10.6 (Snow Leopard) that is Intel only...

Mac OS X v10.5 "Leopard" was released on October 26, 2007. It was called by Apple "the largest update of Mac OS X". It brought more than 300 new features.[86] Leopard supports both PowerPC- and Intel x86-based Macintosh computers; support for the G3 processor was dropped and the G4 processor required a minimum clock rate of 867 MHz, and at least 512 MB of RAM to be installed. The single DVD works for all supported Macs (including 64-bit machines). New features include a new look, an updated Finder, Time Machine, Spaces, Boot Camp[87] full support for 64-bit applications (including graphical applications), new features in Mail and iChat, and a number of new security features. Leopard is an Open Brand UNIX 03 registered product on the Intel platform. It was also the first BSD-based OS to receive UNIX 03 certification.[3][88] Leopard dropped support for the Classic Environment and all Classic applications.[89] pre-installed,
It was the final version of Mac OS X to support the PowerPC architecture.

Wife got the iPhone 4 today. I think she is more excited about the flash for the camera than anything else.

I can't decide whether or not to get the black version this week when it comes in or the white version at the end of the month (or later if I can't get one when they come out).

Just know this, some cases eff up the flash. For example, the Griffen Reveal (black sides, clear back with cutouts for the flash and lens) refracts the light in such a way that it washes out every picture using the flash.

Good call Dokk. I went with a skin from ZAGG. It keeps the profile slim, lasts a long time and all the cutouts are perfect. Had one on my last iPhone and lived it. Just my double penny worth of insight.

Ya. I'm using an Apple bumper (it keeps the sexy lines intact and offers a little protection) and am waiting on my Best Skins Ever skin to get here (should be today or Monday).

If someone did get a case with a clear back (there are a couple out there), you can fix the flash washout issue by coloring in the edges of the cutouts (for the flash and the camera) with a black Sharpie marker.

I like it a lot. It goes on pretty easy (even if it's a little nerve-wracking getting soapy water on your iPhone) and feels nice. It's not as smooth as the glass; but your finger slides over it real well. I actually think I like the slight texture on the back *more* than the smooth glass.

I ordered 2 -- one for my phone and one for my wife's. The first one I put on the front of mine, though, had a scratch on the underside. I took it off and put on my wife's (she's not home until Wednesday, anyway). I've contacted support and have no doubt that they will respond quickly with a new front skin (all reports are that they have great service).

Anyway ... second one looks stellar. I expect it all to look perfect after everything has had a chance to settle. For $8 and minimal shipping (it was $1 first class for the 2 I ordered), you really can't beat these skins.

I believe I remember reading that King James would agree 100%. ;)

Yeah my bad...I was thinking of Snow Leopard. I probably will not put leopard on this laptop. Only running a 512 stick of ram and thats the bare minimum for Leopard and I don't want to bog the whole thing down.

So....I just went out and bought a new iMac lol

I just ordered two on your recommendation. Worth the try since two cost well less than one of the other options. Does it affect the way your bumper fits? I don't plan on getting a bumper, but do a case.

Nope. Just be sure to wait a while (maybe 24 hours) before putting a case on. I waited 12 and it seems to work fine; but their recommendation is 24 before you use it. I think 24 is a bit long in this day and age; so my personal recommendation is to do it in the evening and let it sit overnight while you sleep. By the time you're ready to leave the next day, it should be fine. Be sure to print out their directions on the website and just follow them. :)

Sure ... they reneged on their recommendation due to the signal issues; but their even that can't stop the iPhone 4 from being better than any other on the market. :D

Having had the Iphone 3GS (updated with OS 4.0), I have to admit that I like the new Iphone 4 even with its quirks. Mine's in a iFrogz case and I have no issues at all, and I would have it in a case anyways even if it worked fine without one, simply for protection.
