Re: Second Firearm Thread...
I've been working with a Ruger LCR since finding one in the used section of a local store for a good price. It has a Trijicon tritium front sight. Finding a Galco holster for it in the zipper pouch the gun came in made the sale a no-brainer. (Thanks, mystery former owner!)
Being a semi-auto toter for many years now, it's a bit odd carrying a snob nose, five shot revolver as a primary gun. So...there's also a snub nose S&W model 637 in my weak side front pocket. Belt pouch holds two HKS speed loaders. I guess 20 rounds of .38 special +P is enough overall capacity. |

Just an fyi: If you want a first generation M&P pistol, now's a good time to look. S&W is cranking out the "improved" version 2.0 of all models, some dealers are doing a clearance of the originals to make room.

Just picked this up... I am a sucker for S&W K frames, especially pinned and recessed.

Re: Second Firearm Thread...
Finally broke down and bought a Glock. Have shot and carried 1911 and 2011s for years. In 3 Gun competition, you set the safety, drop the pistol in a bucket, and move on to other guns. But if a 1911 safety gets bumped off....DQ. No thumb safety to worry about with the Glock.

If your into firearms, and want to spend the weekend in the Disneyland of Gun Shows, may I suggest The Cross Roads of the West - Small Arms Review Show.
This years dates are November 30th. - December 2, 2018. It will be at the Arizona State Fair Grounds - Phoenix AZ. Honeslty if you come you can not see everything in a day, but you get a wrist band for all three days, the only negative is parking at about $10.00/day. The display are awesome, machine guns historic military stuff, and about anything you could wish for. FYI Yes Crossroads of the West Gun Shows has a web-site, Google will find it for you. |

Re: Second Firearm Thread...
Recently located a great BOTL who hasn't been seen in these parts for awhile - @Stitch. Back in the day, he made me a beautiful custom three-finger leather cigar case. As I have expanded my gun collection, I wanted to get one of his quality holsters. What you are seeing is my M&P 9c mated with its absolutely perfect fitting Basic Carry 1 Holster in Mahogany. Thanks, Stitch. Here's hoping we see you around some more. If you want to see other examples of Jeff's outstanding work, I recommend you take a gander at http://mountainhomeleather.com/contact.htm. :ss

Re: Second Firearm Thread...
Just picked up a Walther PPQ (M1) 9mm yesterday. Low miles used, previous owner had put Trijicon HD sights on it, and there were 4 magazines in the box. It pays to at least consider buying pre-owned, if you know how to look over a gun before plunking down the money.
Probably have to wait until tomorrow to give it a spin. Really a sweet trigger on this thing! |

Just got my HR218 permit. I picked up a Ruger LSC9. I am really happy with it so far.

Re: Second Firearm Thread...
The Walther PPQ works fine, and is pretty accurate thanks to the very good trigger. If I do my part, that is.

Re: Second Firearm Thread...
Sent my old barrel and action off a few months ago to have the old carbon fiber barrel removed and a new stainless fluted barrel made. Also ordered a break that was compatible with my QDL suppressor so I could use it on two rifles. As soon as the temps rise to a decent range I will be out testing this mother.

Re: Second Firearm Thread...
Picked up a lightly used Walther PPQ this week. The store let me do a five round test fire with their range ammo before purchase. Shot a 3/4" group at 25 feet with the dang thing. I am incapable of doing better than that with ANY handgun. SOLD!

Re: Second Firearm Thread...
Had a warmer day this past Wednesday so I made it out to the range. Our range looks pretty rough after a long winter of nobody repairing things around there. Looking forward to some good time on the bench.
Anybody got anything new? |

Re: Second Firearm Thread...
I like shopping in the used gun market. For the last couple years or so, pre-owned .40S&W caliber handguns have dropped to bargain barn prices. Last Saturday in a private sale, picked up a Glock model 22 in really nice shape for $300. Late Gen3 with RTF-2 exterior. A grip frame plug and extended slide release had already been installed.
Couple shops around here have all but stopped stocking new handguns in .40. Hardly anyone wants 'em. |

Re: Second Firearm Thread...
Good deal on the model 22 and I find it funny how the prices have changed on .40 cals in the last 2 years. Seems the lip service shooters all wanted them and then found out the extra stopping power comes with a little more recoil. I personally like a metal frame .40 better than polymer, but both are fun for the true hobbyist/shootist.
|
Re: Second Firearm Thread...
I reload, so "tailoring" my practice ammo to recoil a little less isn't a problem. I had divested myself of .40 caliber handguns (except for the Browning Hi Power, all steel) a few years back. Passed up several good deals on used Glocks, S&Ws, etc. in .40 since then. This model 22 was just a "can't get hurt financially" thing. So far it shoots fine, just a little jumpier than its 9mm counterpart. Nature of the beast.

Re: Second Firearm Thread...
Well dang did I kill this long running thread, or am I the one keeping it alive? Oh well here's another snort of narcan to keep it going..
Any of you have any of the Canik 9mm handguns? I've waded into the brand in the last few months. Most everything about them seems fine, especially the price point. Only one complaint about them from me: They are set up with very stiff recoil springs. Apparently they are designed to be fed 124 grain "Nato" ammo, which is +P. Or any other +P stuff. The spring will soften up after a few hundred rounds of shooting. But if you use standard pressure ammunition for break in, you'll have some malfunctions (stovepipes) to contend with. |
