REALLY becomes helpful when you've got more than 10 mags. For different firearms. In different calibers. :D |
Re: First Firearm Thread.
So I was at the range the other day teaching my friend how to properly shoot a handgun. She has shot before but never was taught proper grip, stance ect.. so she caught a couple shells to the face and one down the shirt but took em like a champ and kept shooting. I as well got one or two to the forehead but I'm used to it by now.. well I wasn't expected or used to what was about to happen. So I was trying to show off and show her how awesome my grouping was and I was super focused on my front site and trigger pull.. slowly pulling the trigger back then I noticed something didn't feel right. As I left a round down range the brass managed to find its way between my eyes and my glasses. Now my glasses wrap around and since I'm asian my nose isn't that pronounced meaning.. it was stuck in there. I managed to keep the gun down range and with my off hand lift my glasses so it could drop out. At least it didn't somehow find its way down my pants!

Re: First Firearm Thread.
Haha, don't feel bad. I've had the same thing happen to me twice. The first was my left eye got a nice blister from that one. A couple of weeks later I got one on my right eye and another blister.
By the way brass to face and in the shirt should be pretty uncommon from your own gun unless there is a wall next to you. What kind of pistol are you shooting? |
Re: First Firearm Thread.
M&P 9mm it ejects fine I've had a couple but its only got about 400 rounds through it and there was a wall (indoor range)
|
Re: First Firearm Thread.
Cool beans. I've had that brass to face problem with my newer glock 19. Changed out the extractor and ejector and everything runs smoothly.

Re: First Firearm Thread.
Nothing worse than rifle range day, 15 guys shooting AR's......I always try to shoot on the far left of the line, I hate catching hot brass on my neck, eye, down the shirt when trying to qualify!!

Spikes is an awesome company! I wish their parts weren't so hard to find otherwise there would be more spikes on my build. Are your take down pins the same color as your grip?

Picked up a used pmr30 with three mags in trade the other day. Very fun gun to shoot!
|
Re: First Firearm Thread.
Nice, I wish those were legal in CA. 30 rounds of 22 mag just seem like a whole lot of fun!
How easy are the mags to load? I don't see a notch or button to thumb down. I hated loading my CMMG 22-AR mags because after loading the 10th mag or so my thumbs were just killing me. |

Anyone know of any local shops that have FDE windowed pmag 30 round mags that would be willing to ship?

I love mine. Besides the PMR 30, it's my favorite pistol to shoot. Never had an issue yet.

The mag would accidentally drop on a specific production series identified. That has since been resolved. S&W fixed the problematic ones. The 9 mm has been flawless since introduction. |
Re: First Firearm Thread.
TOO BAD I CAN'T EMBED VIDEOS......? but enjoy them if you want to follow the Youtube links
I finally received powder (I've had on order forever...THANKS Obama) slow enough to load up some 220 gr SMK subsonic loads in the 300 Blackout. I build (assembled, pieced together, hobbled...what ever) a new SBR specifically to be used with a AAC Cyclone 7.62 suppressor. (if interested details on rifle below) The issue is the 300 Blackout brass. I have some actual 300 Blackout brass, but I don't want to waste/damage it on load development. The only solution (cause there isn't any to be found....THANKS again Obama) is to convert .223/5.56 brass to 300 Blackout brass. I put together a short video showing the steps to make the 300 Blackout brass and the simple reloading steps for making 220 gr SMK 300 Blackout rounds. I know there are MANY other steps, tricks, blah blah blah....but this was meant to be an under 2 minute simple video. I will tell you that the tricky part it to get the CL and OAL to meet the specification of the rifle chamber so the bolt will close. Since ever chamber is slightly different I had to destroy 1/2 dozen cases and bullets to get it perfect for my rifle. 220 gr bullets take up a lot of case capacity. Basic conversion to 300 Blackout video and simple reloading steps for the 300 Blackout. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFJzfsuQeRY The shakedown run had no issues and ALL subsonic loads cycled the bolt, with suppressor. No FTF or FTE and they held the bolt open on last round. The subsonic load DID NOT cycle the bolt without the suppressor (expected this). The best part is that there was no POI shift with/without suppressor and removing/reinstalling suppressor. 300 Blackout test video. Straight video with no alterations shot with iPhone 5. (sorry not the best but will give you an idea of sound at muzzle) Load used: (specific to my rifle use at your own risk) 10.7 gr 5744 220 gr SMK 1.3520 CL 2.1165 OAL CCI #41 *load is remarkable quiet (no hearing protection needed) and extremely accurate. First shot is slightly louder that 2nd..3rd... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZsV2RxLbuA Rifle used: (this was build from the ground up, by me to spec) http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...ps2007e1b8.jpg Federal Requirements: (2 NFA tax stamps) GTO Billet lower (registered) Spike's upper DD Omega 7" lite rail 8.2" Noveske barrel 300 BLK Timney 3.5 lb trigger YM M-16 BCG Bravo CH Bravo buffer/tube/spring Assorted Magpul Troy BUIS Bobro QD mount Trijicon AccuPoint 1-4 30mm AAC Cyclone 7.62 suppressor (registered) Next up I tested 62 gr SS109 5.56 and 60 gr Aguila SSS subsonic 22lr through another AR-15 SBR with a AAC Ranger 2 5.56 suppressor. (rifle specs listed below if your're interested. Again, I am looking to see if there is any POI shift and what the accuracy is w/without the suppressor. No issues with the rifle's functioning with either load. The video is not altered and was shot with iPhone5 (again, sorry not the best platform for shooting this type of video....but you get the idea) 5.56 test (quiet enough to shoot without hearing protection) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPRaXoWDad8 22lr test (you could shoot this indoors with no hearing protection) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jORxOkjCM4s Rifle used: (this was build from the ground up, by me to spec) http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...ps80307db2.jpg Federal Requirements: (2 NFA tax stamps) GTO Billet lower (registered) Vltor VLS upper 10.5" Noveske barrel 5.56 Timney 3.5 lb trigger Bravo BCG Bravo CH Bravo buffer/tube/spring Assorted Magpul Troy BUIS LaRue QD mount Trijicon ACOG 1.6 AAC Ranger 2 5.56 suppressor (registered) |

I have been looking at the Ruger LCR .38 which I had the opportunity to shoot this past weekend and I loved it, but I'm not a 100% sold on having it as a back up. I was also looking at the SA xdm 9 or xds 9 compact. Still kinda new to firearms but I am looking for personal defense and something I can grow into. Since NJ is a huge PITA to purchase handguns, I would like to do it right. Already planning on buying an SA 1911 .45 Loaded or might jump up to the Operator. |
