there's don, always good for a laugh. Actually the footballing world had nothing to do with my happiness the other day. Stupid work stuff/stupid wedding/housebuying/dog shitting in my house stuff. we all have those days. It also might have something to do with the fact that no one but aldukes came up with a guess for my teams season, and that bastage said we'd allow 27 goals.

thank you james tiberius.and Aldukey for such an Idea

So my team has started their practizin' for the up and coming season. 10 games, Win loose or draw in these matches. Looks like we're going to have a pretty decent squad. I've never played with any of these people before, and in a brand new division, with teams I've never played against. For a 5er of stogies, What will our record be? 1-8-1?
for the first tie breaker how many goals will I score? 0? 1? 5?* for the second tie breaker how many goals will my defense allow all season?

*the past 2 seasons I've been more like Jamie carragher (NO, NOT AGAINST SPURS) than Vidic, but scored twice in 2 seasons, a 25 yard volley, and a header off a corner. (If I score 10 goals this season, city will offer me 100 million)

I'm going with 3-4-3, You'll score 2 and allow 20. Questions: what division are you playing in and who (if anyone) is your team sponsor?

Don Fernando 01-22-2009 01:16 AM

Re: The Official Soccer/Football/Futbol/Calcio thr

I am going with 5-3-2 you will score twice and your defence will allow 11 goals.

Re: The Official Soccer/Football/Futbol/Calcio thr

I know nothing of your league or Team Pittman but I'ma go with the classic 4-4-2 setup, a bit of a drought for you I'm afraid at 0 goals and your defense will allow an average of 1 per game so, 10.

I hope you fare better and enjoy yourself

Joe, we currently have no sponsor, but will try to locate one next season. why?

Jason, your confidence in my goal scoring abilities is outstanding... however it would seem to be practical as the "goalie" has yet to show for a practice, so i've been relegated to keeper instead of centerback.

this is adult amateur soccer man, I know the drill! You scored 2-3 last season (if my random fact recollector is not broken)? You'll definitely be moved further back and then follows this, the drought, inevitable! Sorry, don't shoot the messenger.

The sponsor matters. Look at what happened last year when you were sponsored by or carpet company or whatever it was. Also knowing that you play in D4, I am switching my pick to 4-3-3 you still score 2 and will give up 19.

Did anyone get to watch the Liverpool - Everton draw today? By watching the gamecast and reading the report, it sounded like Liverpool started out slow once again and after Gerrard hit the equalizer, Everton really packed in the defense. I expect the replay next week to be equally close. For the 5th round draw, the winner should be getting Villa so long as they can win their replay with Doncaster next week. Not going to be an easy road for the Cup for Liverpool at all.

theycallmedan'lboone 01-25-2009 08:19 PM

Re: The Official Soccer/Football/Futbol/Calcio thr

Joey, from a truly unbiased view. Liverpool dominated 88 minutes out of the game. Honestly, everton may have had a 3-4 minute spell of possession. here's a hint rafa.. MARK CAHILL!. Steven's finish was sublime, even if it was for a bit of timmy howards not getting down fast enough, but torres' ball through to him was even better. howard made up for it though about 5 minutes after the goal when he stopped a Gerrard special, half volley from about 8 yards. Liverpool dominated, but it only takes a moment. Marking tim Cahill would have been the difference. I want Robbie Keane to get some action. I love Dirk Kuyt, but the guy's just not cutting it EVERY WEEK.

(edited to say) he'll go a while and then pop up to score, I dunno, the winner next derby)

Rafa couldn't mark his undies, much less Cahill :D

Kuyt's integral to Liverpool being able to do how they do I think, he's tireless and dogged, goals from him I think would be considered as incidental gravy

In other news Milan stomped the hell out of Bologna today and goldenballs I gets his first goal after his third game (and managed to NOT give up the ball 15 times). Kaka's got 2. Marco Di Vaio is still top class and the only Bologna player to impress.

Still giddy and hungover from Inter's destruction at the hands of Atalanta last week I barely cared that they eaked out 3 points today, they're not convincing me that the scudetto is theirs. They may be finished riding the wave of relegated and points-docked competition

Juventus will bid 30 million euro for Kuyt, at least, that's what the Italian media suggests.

Re: The Official Soccer/Football/Futbol/Calcio thr

jason your words make me laugh. I think Benayoun starting over dirk kuyt would actually be better for Liverpool as a team. Kuyt does have that whole, I can run until my legs fall off thing going for him.

If Juve do make a 30 MILLION (euro I assume) bid for dirk kuyt, Rafa should take it. Not that he's using the other 20 million guy he has(and who will, imho, lose come this summer) I think getting 30 mil for dirk k is great. Buy a real winger.. or let benayoun/babel play.

For 30 Million I think Rafa should take it too. I really like Kuyt and hate to see him go, but you can get a lot for that much. Also when is Rafa finally to get a line up and stick with it. I know you have to find one that works, change things up for injuries, and let players get some rest, but on the flip side there is also putting your best 11 out there and letting them get into a regular routine of playing and in habit with each other. There are some games where he will start no (true) strikers and just have Kuyt and Gerrard play up, or he will set it like this weekends and have Torres and Babel along with Kuyt and Gerrard all in. And is Keane ever going to get off the bench again?

No, you're not a bad person. Wish I could see Wigan play too :r

I actually quit a job once because of football. I wanted to see Ajax vs Gremio for the worldcup late 1995 and because of the time difference with Japan that game was here mid day. My (female, football hating) boss said that football was no reason to take a day off, so I took the keys to the office, slammed them on her desk and said I quit.

Has Rafa lost the plot? He endeared himself to the Liverpool fans in 2005 when he took liverpool to the CL final and came away with the trophy. Since then there has been an FA Cup (2006) and a Community shield.. (2007) and... the UEFA Supercup... 2005.. anyways. While thats all great and wonderous... Only 2 of them have any real meaning. The FA Cup and The CL final. Liverpool and their fans desire 1 thing. The Premier League Title. While many teams would be happy to say that in 5 years they've won SOMEKIND of silverware. Obviously that's not enough. I think that Liverpool have the talent to compete for the PL. Obviously Man U is the favorite, and has been since day 1. Why does Benitez play defensively when he's up only a single goal? why does he pull of Captain Fantastic?(ever!?) Why does Robbie Keane not play? Why does Lucas? These are all questions I'd love to have answered. Don, I expect some hilariaty to ensue from you.. Jason? Aldukes? anybody?

Re: The Official Soccer/Football/Futbol/Calcio thr

too many questions for me to address in a dark garden shed on a laptop with a schitzy power cord and dead battery but I think it's a testament to Liverpool fans that the grumblin is only just beginning since his rotation policy is assinine given the type of personalities he buys for squad players and the way he rotates. Been donig it since day one and doesn't show any signs of learning a lesson.

He's a good tactician, and a decent man manager but man management style is suited to a smaller club with lower expectations I do believe.

If he played a first team and bought and used squad players based on injuries instead of His Indecipherable Way, he'd be doing it all at Liverpool

I've wondered if Rafa has what it takes to win a league title. Too often they start out well and has them in a position to make a run, but then blows it. They clearly have enough talent to win, the champions league success has proven that, but I don't know if Rafa knows how to manage the talent properly over the entire season. He seams to struggle to find ways to beat the lesser clubs. If you want to win the title, you just can't keep giving those points away.

I have no idea why the puts out some of the lineups he does. Lucas will probably be a very good football someday, but Keane is a good footballer now. (Maybe you should try adding and dropping him from your fantasy team, that seemed to work well in the past). The fairly consistent lineup he used from Aug to Nov seemed to be working rather well. It seems like every week now, I have now idea on who he will be putting out there. It seems like now that everyone is healthy, he decides its time to keep shaking everything up.

This season is definitely not over, not by a long shot, but Liverpool is going to start getting some W's on a consistent basis again, or it will be over for them very quickly.

DonDon, I'm certain you don't hate the open road ahead of you, now that doe-eyed-cryboy-berbatov has decided to start scoring, it might get interesting... maybe if his former parndner were given the option to play more than 12 minutes here and there.. Chelski is probably the team that I dislike most in the Premier League.

Inter used to be that team in the Serie A, but then they bought 2 of my favorite (ex Ajax) players, so they won a bit of sympathy. But as soon as Chivu and Zlatan leave Inter they will be my least favorite again ;)

I think that Robbie Keane is on his way back to spurs, as he has been left off the squad for today... maybe babel will finally get some time up top? too bad I felt he was a good player... oh well. perhaps rafa da gaffa knows best... only problem is who does liverpool get in between now and monday? very frustrating. :bh 20 Million to rent a player for 6 months and not hardly play him. I've just recently gotten into the Premier league and football you play with your feet and not hands . I've always watched the international competitions and was quite honestly missing the sport after last years Euro Cup . I've been driving my wife nuts since finding Gol tv and the Fox soccer channel . From Bundesliga I've enjoyed watching Bayern Munchen since I'm familiar with some of the players and Stuttgart also . The FA cup has been pretty entertaining with some of the smaller clubs and their 6,000 seat venues . Today I watched Liverpool beat Chelsea , Lampard should not have been tossed , but it was good to see Torres break through twice at the end . I can't say I'm partial to any one squad in the Premier League yet , just a fan of the game and its Passion . It would be nice to catch a game between Celtic and the Rangers as my niece now lives in Scotland and has a boyfriend there who is a Celtic fan . He has told some bits and pieces about what it's like to attend that fierce rivalry . Next time there is a friendly played in Philadelphia I'm going to get tickets to experience the event . :D

Re: The Official Soccer/Football/Futbol/Calcio thr

Celtic is great, I have good memories about the time they played Ajax. Ok, not such great memories about the result thought, but they brought a massive amount of supporters abroad, over 10,000 of which only 8,000 had tickets. The atmosphere in the stadium was fantastic, those Celtic boyz can sing. And the party before the game was great too, Ajax & Celtic supporters walking, singing and drinking side by side without any violence or riots.

Are you serious here? Hard to tell in plain text.

The ref was a total Joke, Bosingwa, Gerrard and Alonso should have been sent off, Lampard not... total reverse. He sent Lampard off for thinking he saw the same thing he gave Alonso a yellow for earlier. He is a weak ref.

In other news Inter looks plain as they tie 18th Torino and Milan don't look as old as they are after completely dominating and schooling the fascist blue side of Rome today. Rossoneri for the scudetto?
