Awesome, Enjoy.

So I see Leyland is retiring. Was this seen coming over in the Detroit world?

Can't resist a little story .....

Was playing wiffle ball in the back yard with our 5 year old nephew last summer. Great game ... the kid can hit and I was making some amazing out of the trees catches. It all came down to his last at bat ... bases loaded, two outs, two strikes. He hit a line drive right at me. I knocked the ball down, grabbed it and raced to first base. There stood my wife ... she was first base ... kinda looking like a deer in the headlights as we both ran right at her. Tough gal ... she didn't flinch. My nephew beat me by maybe half a step but he was clearly safe. Unfortunately, my left eye collided with the top of my wife's head. She was fine but I walked around for a month with a black eye.

Who says baseball isn't a contact sport?

Well, he is 117 years old, so it was inevitable....but I thought he'd stay a little longer. :)

Anybody else think Leyland resembles "Stockburn", the old marshal killed by Clint Eastwood's character at the end of Pale Rider?

Never thought of it, but that's pretty good. Just hope Jim's demise is a little more peaceful, and many years away.

Watching media day interviews streaming online, if anyone is interested they are on now.

http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?topic_id=3...nt_id=31168901

Of course asking J. Lester about his fight with cancer and coming back and pitching and raising awareness for the fight against cancer, usually the media day stuff is a lot of filler, but being a cancer survivor myself I hope they milk every second out of it they can and it raises even a few extra bucks or gives one cancer patient hope he didn't have before.

He said he told Dave D. on Sept 7th but they kept it from everyone else. I'm sure Dave was hoping he'd change his mind. Wild and irresponsible speculation around these parts about who the next skipper will be.

Love Big Papi holding a huddle in the dugout, mark of a true leader seeing the team getting down and taking control and pumping them up.

From the remarks part of it was touching and a lot of it was "wtf are you guys doing... this isn't just a regular baseball game".

The comments were classic by the team talking about it ... how everyone was quiet paying attention like kindergarteners paying attention to the teacher, etc., and then you get to Pedroia who says "I don't know, I couldn't understand a word of what he said." :r

Edit: Hard to believe the Sox were picked to finish last in their division this year, so yes should be happy no matter what happens...oh if it were only that easy huh?

I've really enjoyed this series.
I wanted to see Wainright get lifted the first time he got in trouble, prior to any damage.
When he stayed in the second time he was in trouble, I just shrugged and figured St Louis just didn't want that one last night.
They missed a golden opportunity to go deep in the pen with the night off tonight, I'm not sure why they approached it like a regular season game. Ya gotta play to win.

I really don't care which team wins, but I feel like St Louis is a heavy underdog, so I've kinda been leaning their way.

They operated on Miguel Cabrera's groin tear today. The surgery was successful. I predict he wins the Triple Corwn again in 2014.

Word is that it was both a groin tear and a sports hernia. I agree, he wins it again in 2014.

Hot Stove time, so Dreamboat will probably sign somewhere else for big money, Dennis is hoping Seattle signs him that's for sure, that's ok we have Jackie Bradley Jr. waiting to take over in center, Drew won't be back unless it's a utility role, so you have Xandar ready to take over his natural position at shortstop, you put Middlebrooks at 3rd full time and that's all your holes, well you probably sign Napoli to a couple more years. ... too soon?

Is there any interest in a off season Hot Stove thread?

Tigers decline making a qualifying offer to Jhonny Peralta....he was the only guy to hit consistently in the post season besides A-Mart, but you have your infield set with the new kid and Infante, so I guess it made sense. Still bummed to see him go.

You're assuming Infante comes back. I really hope he does, but he'll be in high demand. Benoit is on the FA list too. Bullpen already needed help. We'll need even more if he bolts. Granted Joaquin was a bit shaky at closer, but he was one of the best setup men in the league prior.

I saw someplace today that the Red Sox are taking a serious look at Beltran. If he's that good, which I still think he's an a$$hat, shouldn't the Cards consider keeping him?

The reports are that Boston is actively pursuing Beltran?
Being an a$$hat won't fly in Boston he will be put in his place.

Found out after my post that Infante is a FA. Damn.

Benoit was a great set up man except for giving up a HR every other appearance. I'm not sold on him, but he might be the best of what little we have. :r

I know you guys had some problems with Beltran but he turned out to be a real plus in St. Louis. The Cards made a QO for him but I don't think, at his age, the Cards want to commit to the 2-3 year contract that he wants. With his knees, his ability to play RF long-term is iffy. Plus, the Cards already have other plans for RF ... SS, CF and maybe 3rd seem to be their focus at the moment. The problem with Beltran going to Boston is that the Sox already have a pretty good DH.
