Just had a VSA Divemaster 500M arrive. Man what a deal on the price vs quality scale. Grabbed the orange dial on ss braclet in quartz. I may go ahead and pay the extra bucks for an auto version next.

Feels and looks like a tank plus a very comfortable braclet. Think I've got a keeper.

**Sorry- camera is out of commission so pic was pilfered from the net.

Now if it was a remote Hygro with the sensor in the humidor and inside humidor readings on the wristwatch that would be cool.

Nixon may not be the fanciest watch on the market, or the best -- but I can tell you they're a great watch for the price. Up until I bought this Seiko Black Monster, ALL I've owned are Nixon's. Literally. Every watch.

This is the last Nixon that I owned, it is "The Player", I got it for my birthday back in 2008.

keeping a watch in a humidor will do wonders for its long life of service... I wonder how accurate the hydrometer is? Or any hydrometer actually?

I am quite suprised Habanos has licensed logos for a co-branded watch? How many would kill to have a Cohiba inspired Rolex/Breitling or something? New dial, hands and engrave something on the swing mass... $$$

Looking at a watch for my girlfriend this weekend. I'll check around Biel first, then Zurich on Saturday to see if I can beat up the price some. I am not looking for anything over the top. I have one of her watches to be service right now.

I like the Certina Quartz pilot watches, Mido, or the Swatch Automatic. It has to be a watch they I could wear too :-) There are some antique manuals that our watchsmith may have, but he is battling the flu and I have not been by.

Question....

How do you "clean" a metal bracelet?

My Nixon for example has a couple years of gunk built up near the clasp. I'd like to thoroughly clean it.

Old toothbrush, dishwashing soap and room temperature water. scrub away.

Why does it have to be room temp? Just curious.

Best thing in the world, polishes and cleans. They can be had locally at ace hardware for about 3 bucks for two cloths. Truly amazing, you do it once every couple of months and the watch will never age.

DO NOT use these cloths unless you know what you are doing. This is not your normal polising cloth and can make parts too shiny. If you have brushed links or parts of links, using cape cod will destroy that contrast.

One of the best ways is like Moses describes. Just soap and an old toothbrush. You don't want to scratch anything.

Another method is to put the bracelet in a freezer ziploc bag and spray in a good amount of WD40. Let this sit for a couple hours then come back and rinse under water.

Along with Palmolive, it's easier on soft hands. Actually, it's to prevent any temperature based reactions to the watch. This is to say, don't pour boiling water or dip it into ice water...

Re: Wristwatch collectors out there?

Darrell, as jeweler friend of mine taught me and he's the one responsible for my watch bend, simply take a little bowl, say a Chinese rice bowl, pour some glass cleaner into it, enough to cover the watch band when folded into bowl, and let sit for about 30 minutes. Then rinse under water and wipe clean. Been doing it for years now. I just make sure that glass cleaner does not come in contact with the seals (watch back) and wipe that separately. I also come by and shake the watch in the bowl, gently from side to side, a couple of times while its sitting in the bowl (Every 10 minutes, let's say, of that 30 minute bath).

Re: Wristwatch collectors out there?

My first day of watch shopping did not go so well. My girl wants a Swatch and I found a cool one that is a chrono with red croc style strap and 5 or 6 small gems on the dial. There conservative and cool at 150 CHF. I also looked at Tissot and Certina.

I am going by our watchsmith today and maybe he has something laying around? I don't want to spend more 500 CHF. Today I am headed to Zurich and will check out additional watch stores.

Curtis & Co.

In the next few months C&C will make their watches with an automatic movement instead of a battery. Their smallest one is 50mm. The large one is 57mm.

I bought a couple new watches since I last posted in this thread. I need to take some pictures and share.

Looking fwd to it Dan. Automatics are just a little bit different in a fun way. I just had a Boschett Cave Dweller arrive last Tuesday and it's been on my wrist ever since.

Swatch has a new repeater for around $150 that is quite a deal.

The watch I ordered today has a ETA movement in it which e-man67 told me is a good movement. I don't know much about watches, but he is being a good buddy and teaching me.

I did order a cheap automatic skeleton watch for $50 the other day on 1saleaday.com just for the heck of it. It has a Chinese or Japanese movement in it or something. I just liked the way it looked.

Re: Wristwatch collectors out there?

I love watches and of my dozen or so my faves are my Rolex Submariner 2 tone w/ blue face and bezel (it's pretty much my daily piece) I also have a Breitling Datora SS w/ white face (a nice summertime watch. Looks great with a tan and white clothing) Those two are my best watches and most of the other stuff I own are funky pieces that I wear for special occasions. The Hamilton "Ventura" is a cool watch from the late 50's that got re-issued a number of years ago and made popular by the "Men in Black" movie (it was part of the official "uniform) It's a cool formal piece as it is unique yet understated.
http://www.stanswatchweb.co.uk/asset...s/Dscn0031.jpg

One watch I like to wear at night is the "Pimp"... yeah, the name is awful, but it's a cool watch to wear once in a blue moon... It actually is done with blue LEDs that light up to display the time like an abacus. Every two minutes it's does a cool "Whirlpool" cycle of all the LEDs and freaks some people out. It looks more like something out of a sci-fi movie.
http://www.uncrate.com/men/images/pimp-watch.jpg
They (and dozens of other unconventional watches are sold at www.tokyoflash.com)

You can never go wrong with a nice old vintage LED. I found a mint 1973 Pulsar P3100 through a watch forum about 10 years ago and it is a ton of fun to wear. Very "retro"
http://crazywatches.w.interia.pl/pho...r_led_p3_1.jpg

Kenneth Cole make a few nice inexpensive yet very elegant pieces and the new high-end Citizen watches are gorgeous with amazing movements and fantastic contstruction.

I have a lot of friends who worship TAG and they've never been my cup of tea. Omegas are awesome and Tissot make some nice ones too.

Then there are dozens of ultra high-end watches that I (like most mere mortals) can only dream about.

Fakes? Well, that exactly what they are... it's better to wear a $300 Seiko than a $300 copy of a $20,000 watch. That's my opinion anyhow.

W

You could've (I do not know what your ordered) had both ETA movement and skeleton dial with for an attractive price. Since Swatch owns ETA, you getting the movement for like nothing. Under $150.00! Just ribbing you a little. I love what Swatch can does; it's amazing and now they really have some value for the money.
