My PJ holster is due to ship within the next couple of days...although I'm still waiting on my carry permit, so it's not gonna do me much good just yet.

On the contrary, will give you ample practice time.
Get comfortable carrying and drawing before hitting the road.

Question for AR guys that have built their own.
Now that my Rock River lower shipped, thinking of ordering the lower kit for it directly from RR, for $70.
However, noticed thay also have a two stage trigger for double the price.
I assume my stock trigger on my M&P and my Armalite are single stage, correct?
If so, for now, rather not spend the extra money.

+1000

Practice drawing in simulated stress. Run 20 yards, then suddenly try to whip out your gun as fast as you can. Do it with the gun COCKED and UNLOADED (loaded mag for accurate weight is your call, for the love of God don't forget and chamber a round... :2). You'll be surprised how often you pull the trigger accidentally ;)

There are lot's of draws and carry spots that work great normally.... but stick some stress in there and you start getting misfires. And even if it's 1 outta every 30 times, do you want those odds that you're going to shoot yourself instead of the other guy? or even one in a hundred... and bear in mind, that means you have to practice 100 frantic draws from that position before potentially learning of it's flaw.

Don't be afraid to say "this holster isn't working for me, I can't get the right firing grip on the gun" and switch holsters. I've had holsters I really liked... but just couldn't get a SAFE draw from them, too easy to slip a finger through the trigger guard while attempting to get a solid grip on the gun under stress. Takes a lot of practice and repetition.

yuppers. stock trigger is a long pull single stage. You pull the trigger back, fight a little mush and sponginess, then it really starts getting firm, and it breaks (fires) sometime after that.

A double stage trigger will have almost no resistance as you're pulling it back, it glides right back until it hits a very very sharp and defined wall... from there' you'll need 2-4lbs of pressure and almost no travel distance for the trigger to break. The second half of the stage kinda feels like a 1911 with a nice trigger. There's very little no movement forward or back, you just put some pressure on the bar, and bang.

Emopunker, I shot at bowling pins for several years. Not everything will penetrate that plastic hide, use caution. For that which does not get thru the skin, has an annoying tendency to bounce back at the firing line, if not the shooter himself.

Would take too much time to list off what's safe versus not, but I can lay out a few basic parameters:

With pistols, .38 special/9mm makarov and smaller are non-nos for the most part. 9mm parabellum has plenty of velocity, at least from a service length barrel.

Don't go smaller than #4 shot with the 12 or 20 gauge shotguns, buckshot and of course slugs are fine. (Believe it or not slugs will not completely penetrate the pins, but boy do the pins look like jet fighters leaving a carrier deck when hit by them!)

.22 L.R. is okay out of either handgun or rifle, but not .22 shorts or the Aguila primer-power-only fodder.

I've never seen a centerfire rifle round fail to bite into the wood core, but can't say that applies to every caliber you might try. The high velocity stuff goes right through as you might expect, but the bullets probably change direction a little bit afterwards. Use a wide/tall enough backstop.

And in all cases, wear eye protection! One time at a match I was the only one shooting and hit a pin dead solid with a .45acp reload. It spun the pin around and sent a .357 bullet that was already in the pin straight back at my shin! Left a welt that didn't go away for a couple weeks. Wouldn't have been a "Throw some dirt on it and man up!" moment if that bullet had headed for my face, and probably would have done some real damage to an unprotected eye. Fortunately I never shoot without appropriate glasses.

Hope this doesn't come off as me being a safety ninny, just trying to share several years of being around pin shoots.

If anyone sees a good deal on a complete Magpul CTR kit for my new lower, that is such a great deal that I should further risk life and limb, not to mention being shot with my own weapons, by my "can no longer be tolerant of all my recent purchases" wife, please be sure to let me know.
Life without some degree of risk is just not fun.:D

Gun Show this weekend, pay cash, throw receipts out the window. Only hard part is sneaking the parts in the house without getting caught.

Francis and Justin would probably know better at this point, I built my RRA so long ago that I don't even remember what I paid for parts.

I have the lower parts kit coming from RRA.
Got that for $70 for the single stage trigger.
Just need stock components.
This:
http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/...lack-p-45.html

Just have no clue if that is a good price at $149 but out of stock anyway.
DSG has them at $99 but out of stock.

You could try sportsmans-depo.com They had my ACP 45 parts in stock., but I did a check for SAK0101-K your stock number, no go. If you search "Magpul" they do have a couple dozen parts pages you can manually sort through though.

Re: First Firearm Thread.

you may want to skip the complete kit, instead pick up a buffer tube kit, and then pick up a stock. Plenty of both in stock around the interwebs, but finding a kit with those specific components may be more difficult.

WHERE did you score it? I need one....

BTW, hang on to the drum. You can spend $30 on the black dog site when they reopen and get a conversion tower to make it work with your 15-22

And if you find 25rd mags, msg me... I've got half a dozen on backorder form cabellas for 6 weeks now... I'm running out of time before I leave the country next month :/
