Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I'm a big fan of Knob Creek and Maker's Mark myself.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
picked up my first bottle of Elijah Craig 12yo.... I know, I know....this should have been one I tried a long time ago.
It was very good, but I think Buffalo Trace's sweetness still gives it a slight edge over the EC12. I was also able to snag anothe bottle of Thomas Handy Rye from the 2008 Antique Collection for $70. :banger |

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
For some of my Bourbon lover's Not sure if you kept tab's but Knob Creek has been well RUN OUT OF STOCK at the source. And its all our fault ;)
There commitment to 'never rushing' still to this date stands true, even when the whole source is out, they will never dump a barrel or too just to make a few people happy, so, lets just say I cannot wait for Countdown Knob! ( some L.C's still have it in stock, the ones that do i promise people don't buy it there or know what it is haha, cause i found a place in clear lake, but way over priced ha) http://www.knobcreek.com/share/webcast Enjoy guys! |

Now I know we're talking about "Bourbon" here, but two that I've found are very good and good great with a cigar are....
Evans Williams Single Barrel Vintage Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (put in oak 1998) and Bernheim Original Kentucky Straight Small Batch "Wheat" Whiskey. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Well tonight my wife and I finally closed on our house! To celebrate I cracked open a bottle of Jefferson's Reserve Presidential Select 17yr. I must say, it is one phenomenal bourbon. It's a bit pricey, but I purchased it for a special occasion and this evening was definitely one of those. I highly recommend this bottle if you have a chance to pick it up.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
WOW! some brutal stuff, Can't find it down here. How is it compared to a Bookers, or Wild Turkeys rare breed for straight barrel strength bourbon?

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
My local shop had Booker's 127 on sale for $40, so I picked up a bottle last night. The tag on the bottle says to drink it neat, so I did and although it's real smooth with hints of vanilla and caramel, it was a little much. Dropped an ice cube in it and that helped to open it up and it went down much easier. Refilled my glass 2 more times and smoked 2 cigars, good stuff! :D

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Starting early with some Wild Turkey Rare Breed.
After some Cash is saved up i'll try out Bookers again, But hell after finding the Deal of the century with bottles of Glenlivet Nadurra for 24$ ( Normally 60+$) I snagged 2 bottles and one is going down QUICK! lol Cheers |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
The last bottle I picked up was Russel's Reserve 10yr. Very nice for $25. I really wish I could have got some of the BTAC, but at $70 a bottle, no thanks.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Has anyone tried the 2009 4 Roses Mariage?? How does it compare to the 2008?
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Bought a bottle of Eagle Rare 17 yr this weekend. They didn't have any Stagg or I would have picked that up to.
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
At lunch a picked up a bottle of Rittenhouse Rye BIB. I've had the 80 which was good, so I'm expecting a song and dance from higher proof.

At some points it seems so rich I could image putting in on pancakes. Don't think I will, but, there are moments of a thick syrupy molasses thing going on. I think the best part about drinking a rye is getting a good picture of what rye brings to the taste of bourbon. I went out and picked up another bottle. I'll probably grab a couple more after Christmas if they're still on the shelf. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I'm not too much of a Bourbon nut, but I did pick up a bottle of Eagle Rare 10 yesterday evening to do some cooking and drinking. :D
When I was in the store I noticed that they had a TON of the Rittenhouse 100 and a few bottles of the Stagg. But, the one that really caught my eye and made me run away from the Whiskey section was Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve 23.... @ $299! Holy bejesus, that better be some fantastic stuff! |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I was in Total Wines. They still had decent stock on Stagg, Eagle 17, Sazerac, and Handy.

Snagged a bottle of Van Winkle 10yr 107 and 12yr Lot B. We got some 15yr in at the store but it didn't go on the floor, all the managers snagged them I think. Maybe I'll get one next time. We sold out of every VW in 1 day, including 20 and 23yr.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
This thread makes me wish I was still in the states...bourbon is hard to come by in Germany.
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Thanks to Eric and Patrick for telling me about Weller Antique, very good stuff!
Since I made the trip to get some good cheap Bourbon, I made it a theme and grabbed these bottles on the same trip: Four Roses Ancient Ancient Age Rittenhouse Rye BIB Old Fitzgerald BIB Very Old Barton BIB The Very Old Barton and Old Fitz were new for me. The VOB got some good reviews on Straightbourbon.com, however so far I don't really care for it. The Old Fitz is quite nice... |
